On the topic of politics.. anyone watch the Trump trial last night?

The testimony from Jamie Raskin was genuinely quite moving and really powerful.

Trump's first lawyer was hilarious. Rambled and rambled.. basically filibustered his own time instead of defending his client.

The second guy was a hoot too. Offered no evidence or coherent argument other than that the trial was political because Democrats were attacked and they're scared of Trump. His argument being undermined by the fact the rioters were looking to assassinate Republicans.. including the Vice President no less 😂

"Trump's" party is more terrified of him than the other lot

The SNP have always been made up as a mix of right left and centre. Only in last 10-15 years they moved to the left. Don't think that's ever been hidden.

Maybe if they actually told the truth about what to expect and set out the not insignificant challenges they'd face and the hardships it would bring which in most likelihood would need an almost immediate approach to the IMF for financial aid, as opposed to promising sunshine and roses they would have a decent chance.

And know what: I genuinely believe they'd win by a landslide if they did.

The fact they have presided over a fairly ruinous lowering performance over the last 10 years and the financial gap between income and expenditure has grown to completely unsustainable levels being studiously ignored simply doesn't wash with the majority of the Scottish population nowadays. People are sharper than that ffs.

to me, if they address the major concerns head on and at least acknowledge them they'd be in with a genuine chance. Right now; not a fwcking chance despite what the polls say.

It's not simple scaremongering though. These are real challenges that need to be out in the open as far as I'm concerned. If anything lessons should be learned from the Brexit debacle so as not to leave these things swept under the carpet or pooh poohed away.

That gives scaremongerers a veritable field day which they will absolutely seize upon.

As i have said many times, for me its not really about economy for me other than the extent that we could fully control it.

Its about the ability to choose a government. We absolutely do not have the ability to do so now.

Successive Tory governments and brexit show that overwhelmingly. Spare me the tosh about how we got a few labour governments that we voted for, we got them because england said so. If Scotland voted 100% tory in those elections Labour would still have got in.

Even on the economy many of the arguments are based on status quo, who says foreign policy stays the same for example? Our economy could be a completely different model.
