Zinchenko?
Or dosen't that count because it was a record PL price for a Ukraninan Full Back?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know why you keep using Zinchenko as an example. He's definitely the weak link in that City side without question.
I could understand if Pep made Zinchenko in a good full back, but he really isn't anything special. Would be a good player for top half sides, an Everton let's say.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To be fair, City fans have got used to watching Mendy. Zinchenko, while average in general terms, must look like Roberto Carlos in comparison.

We had a decade of Pablo Zabaleta who was a hard act to follow.
Mendy failed dismally.
I know Zab was RB but he was proficient on either side.

Pep hasn't reall made a marquee signing at City.
Nothing in the price range of VVD, Allison, Pogba or Maguire.
He's bought good players and in most cases made them better.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd say anyone above £50m is 100% a marquee signing, of which Pep has had plenty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
£50m is the going price for any quality PL player these days.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sterling for £50m and De Bruyne for £55m back in 2015 are surely marquee signings.
You'd be talking £80/90m if you were to make those same signings in 2021.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd put them in the same bracket as Sanchez and Fred at United.
City have never come near to breaking the transfer record in the PL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not the overall record but at the time of signing you did break the record for a goalkeeper, a right back, a left back and a centre back.
Pep is an excellent coach but let's not pretend he's been building £15m players into superstars.

comparing him to Klopp
look at the net spend and then start again
Pep has pretty much had whatever funds he's wanted at city, if anything he's under achieved given his record in Europe
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Net spend
Your players still cost 70 million, regardless of net spend.
Net spend is such a shiiiiiiit argument
The best comments on this thread were on the first page. After that it just seemed to turn into a pssing contest that focused mainly on transfer spend instead of a discussion about actual coaching.

Why’s that you do realise what it is right
It’s makes a massive difference spending hundreds of millions more net spend over 4-5 years

Thats the nature of some liverpool fans, saying Pep is a good coach appears to them as saying Klopp is a bad coach so they have to mention the expensive full backs and their great net spend.
Some scouser said Klopp built the team on a limited budget . Klopp is No 10 on the list of the highest spending managers for the last 10 years.
