Britain to host the Euro’s?

Country needs an injection of cash from somewhere.

Not many better than a football tournament that brings foreign reserves in, fills hotels and hospitality, media rights etc and the profile as a whole.

Obviously will be concentrated around London though with city of London, Spurs stadium, Emirates, Wembley.

The danger is re covid that those not vaccinated coming in could catch it and need hospital treatment here or take it back with them to their home countries

Its nonsense.

Wave 3, we have 3 or 4 variants and one with enough evidence that az is completely ineffective against.

Lets open everything to europeans etc to fly in.

People need to realise (but already have summer hols booked stupidly) that the days of travel are over.

By the time everyone is vaccinated this attitude is likely to result in wave 5 of some new variant

Let’s hope the new variants aren’t successful with current vaccinations. Unnecessary risk from the government really as usual

Considering the whole competition would be held in London, I'd say it's a bad thing.

I for one think this is a cluster fack of an idea. Yes the cash injection will be great, lest just hope they can all bring in another variant with them as I'm getting fed up being locked up in my spare time with nothing to do.

Typical UK government.

Is there an intention of letting foreign fans in?

Considering how far we are ahead of everywhere in Europe on the vaccine front we will probably be the only country letting fans into stadia, so makes sense we host it even without letting European fans in.

With our shoddy attempts at border controls and quarantine enforcement, we'd end up with most of Europe arriving anyway

Even if it did happen, I can’t see for a second that they’d let fans from other countries in to the UK to watch matches, so I don’t really see how it’s much of a cash boost for hospitality?

I’d like the euros to happen as much as anyone, but surely they’ve got to cancel them. The world is on its knees, footy just isn’t the most important thing right now. I’d rather they concentrated on vaccinations so I can see my mates and family than have an international football tournament.

Bin it off, sort other stuff out please!

FFS the UK government being monumentally stupid again.

Fair enough hold it in the UK without fans but to suggest things will be sorted enough for fans in stadiums by May is what got us to over 100 thousand dead and new varients with the potential to evade vaccines

I think one country hosting it would be the most sensible thing. Given how far ahead of Europe we are in our vaccination programme it would make sense that we do it.

Logistically it would be pretty easy given the stadia we have and the small size of the country making it easy for the teams to travel around.

It ain't gonna look great though, that we've been locked down all this time, but then we can magically reopen and congregate in droves, coincidentally just in timr for s to mysteriously open up.

And do wwe think this was concocted last night, or has been planned for ages?

Not sure what the fan situation will be like. The superbowl has 25k in a 65k stadium a couple of weeks ago, and it sounded like it went pretty well.

Given the vulnerable in this country will be vaccinated by April, we should really be looking at getting decent crowds in.

Not sure what the plans are for travel restrictions. Imo only the vaccinated should be moving between countries.

Given that the vaccinated can still carry and transmit the virus, it actually makes sense for travel to be restricted until everybody is vaccinated.

Countries which have *both* seen 70%+ of their adult populations vaccinated I think will be opening up to each other later this year.

But it doesn’t make sense for the Greeks or Portuguese, for example, to be opening up to the Brits if they only have 20% vaccinated, regardless of the number of Brits who’ve been jabbed.

Got a better idea. Scrap the bleeding thing and give the players the time off that they need.

Let’s ruin the whole shambles of an effort to contain the virus for the past 18 months so we can get a quick injection of cash and possibly cause another wave of the virus spreading....makes sense.

I think we should just trust the government on this, they’ve done an excellent job so far with covid with strong decisive action.

Depends what the optics are predicted to be. If they think it'll make them more popular they'll probably take the risk. Why change a failing strategy.

As the whole scamdemic was a load of hyperbole in the first place, the government know that there is no risk involved in this event happening.

1,500 to 2,000 people pass away every day in the UK in a normal January/February, this year has been like all the others before it.

Follow the money.

You’re right. I don’t like the Tories but, getting the rest of the world to go along with them like that... credit where credit is due.

No. We have been going along with them.
