Yeah Leno was way more at fault for the Xhaka incident. Why pass to someone running back towards your goal in the middle of a pressing trap - hilarious
It was Xhaka fault. Even with his weaker foot he should be able to play out the ball.
What I cant understand is why we involve Leno to play out of the back to built on our attack. Leno is terrible with his feet.

Was hardly an aggressive press he had time to think and he played a blind pass. This was a planned training ground routine in trying to build play, Leno plays that ball a lot of the time through games. It was terrible from Xhaka and his reaction said everything.

It was tactical!, their is always a player in the middle to collect the ball short. Leno was doing what Arteta asked him to do which Mikel confirmed after the game. It’s a risky way of playing but if you beat the press it’s effective. Xhaka was at fault as his reaction said it all.
All xhaka had to do was pass to the left or pass it back to Leno.

It was still easy to get out of. Just put it out of play and defend the corner. Xhaka saw the attacker and tried to chip it over his head to Luiz. That was no panic pass. He was trying to be cute.
Lay off the Leno hate. We play out the back just fine.
Am I the only one who saw Xhaka ASK for the ball? If Xhaka played it first time back to Leno or the cb, it would have been just fine. Xhaka's first touch is what put him in the hole

Wow, people just determined to blame Xhaka for a situation that was entirely the keeper's fault. That ball to Xhaka was NOT on, if it had been then there'd have been no attacker in the way of Xhaka's pass attempt. The fact he's where he is for the rebound, tells you he was too high up for Leno to play the pass he did when did, especially given the player and foot he played it to..
Aside from it the press being too close for the ball Leno plays (should have sent it out to his right), this "pass to weak foot" error is a constant one from him. He will repeatedly play the ball onto the weak foot of his defenders and as a result, he has played every single one of them into trouble at some point this season, some of them several times over. You can't blame Xhaka for a brain fart situation created by the keeper in the exact same manner he has created a similar weak foot mare with every other player he kicks the ball to regularly.
Here's a wild thought for you all, if the GK plays a pass Xhaka can take on his left foot, the mess is tidied up just fine. This lack of insight when he passes the ball the biggest reason you can't use this GK to play out from the back in the high pace, under high pressure way Arteta keeps trying to. It's not Leno's fault, he's just not a great footballer, that's probably why he chose to play in goal, he's good at that.
Think it's more Xhakas fault, sure it wasn't the best pass by Leno but Xhaka wanted the ball, took a bad touch and then pinged it into Woods.
It was one iffy decision for Leno vs a series of mistakes for Xhaka
Was hardly an aggressive press he had time to think and he played a blind pass. This was a planned training ground routine in trying to build play, Leno plays that ball a lot of the time through games. It was terrible from Xhaka and his reaction said everything.
==================
I thought he was rather gracious actually. I'd have been tearing into Leno for yet again playing the ball into my weaker foot. No bloody need for it and he keeps doing it forcing player to have to adjust unnecessarily, just asking for error to be made.

Honestly at that level, in that position it should barely matter which foot it comes into. You should be able to take a good enough touch on your weaker foot to set yourself, it's really not difficult and he's playing in the PL

The touch off the right foot the ball should never have been played into the stride of, that touch?
Leno can't play out for sh!t and has never been able to, that's why Wenger and Emery both just allowed him to kick it much more. And read the post, it's not Leno hate, it's frustration at the manager's failure to recognize this simple, easy to spot flaw and fix it by adjusting. It won't kill the team to let Leno Kick out a bit more than he does. But it will solve the problem of the Keeper playing his defenders into trouble over and over again because he's just not an outfield footballer. I'm not bashing Leno, this is an acceptable weakness since he's a goalie. Arteta is making this a problem when it doesn't have to be. He just needs to accept that 90%+ playing out can't be the way with this keeper. Problem solved.
I was surprised to see commentators and fans get onto Leno. Xhaka made himself available for the pass. If the tactics are to play out from the back then obviously Leno makes the pass it’s not a case of ‘why didn’t he just smash it out’ it’s undoubtedly manager instructions.
The pass and position that Xhaka received the ball for a team playing it out the back wasn’t really anything more risky than the norm. Jorginho recieves the ball in similar positions many times when I watch Chelsea alone. Xhaka’s brain fart is what went wrong with the goal. A very good player would have played to Cb first time. Even after taking a touch somehow Xhaka seemed to make no attempt to miss Wood with his pass. You rarely see such a freak mistake playing out, it’s not Leno’s fault, not playing out the back’s fault, Xhaka just made a very poor mistake
This is why I say we need upgrade on Xhaka. If Leno passed that ball to Partey he would play it out. Valdes used to pass this kind of balls to Busquets and Xavi all the time, quality midfielder should be calm with ball in his feet.
So how do you guys blaming Xhaka for this, explain the numerous other howlers at the back by numerous other players, ALL due to an initial poor pass/pass choice from Leno? He's been doing it all season ffs, watch the replay, despite the fact it's a simple ass pass, Leno somehow manages to make it as awkward as hell to take and deal with, given the situation Xhaka is in.
Xhaka has his flaws for sure but today's goal was a result of a mistake Leno has made again and again. One that's caused other OG's or errors like today. When someone needs in onto his right, he's plays in onto their left. They need it in front, he flipping play is behind (Bellerin all day every day). They need the ball loose out wide, dumbass plays in straight in to feet, tight. It's only a little nuance thing but when you're needing to quick, one touch pass under pressure, it ,makes a big big difference.

Just booting it out is the last thing you want to risk on your weak foot, running back towards your own goal. Though I won't say he couldn't have just rolled it wide and out for a corner. He was obviously trying to avoid giving away the corner. My point is simply that he should never have been put in the situation he was in the first place. Leno does this way too much and it's cost us plenty this season. That isn't Xhaka's fault, it's Arteta's.
It doesn't matter if Xhaka was calling for the ball. All players call for the ball its upto the passer to determine if that's the right pass to make.
Xhaka was running towards the goal so he obviously not going to see the 3 Burnley players closing him down from behind.
Leno 70% at fault and Xhaka 30% for me.
The fact that Leno has had previous says it all, how many times this season have we all said wtf is he doing making that stupid pass? It's only been blind luck that we got away with him loads of times.
