"Regardless of whether we won the league or not this year, we knew that the 2021/22 season would be a transitional year for the team"

That's got to be fairly worrying?

or is every season technically a transistional one?

Why would it be fairly worrying?

OR we’ll offer it to John Kennedy in the showers. One or the other.

"However, the conjecture coming from some journalists, commentators and pundits that they foresaw the outcome of this season is entirely disingenuous in my opinion."

Whit?!! The vast majority of the Celtic support called this car crash the day Lenny got the permanent gig. Honestly hard to take anything these cants say seriously these days.

Its hard to take anything you guys say seriously these days.

You are seriously trying to say that after winning the league then adding ~£13m worth of talent in Barkas, Ajeti and Turnbull then loans like Laxalt, Elyounoussi and Duffy who would be valued at £20m+ between them the 'majority' of Celtic fans believed their season would be a disaster and Rangers would win the league before the split?

Not buying that for a second.

Absolutely you all knew Lennon wasnt a great manager by any stretch of the imagination. But the reality is most Celtic fans believed they would win the league despite that.

Rangers winning the league was a massive upset.

If Celtic fans genuinely believed back in August that the season would pan out like it did then they would have made an absolute killing at the bookies.

Don't worry - the feeling is mutual.

I think the point being made is that Lennon had a shelf life, and it was all only a matter of time before it all blew up. I can't remember many - if any - Celtic fans on here being happy about his role being made permanent. Many made the point after being put out of the CL qualifiers each season that he wasn't good enough, and also when Copenhagen put us out of the EL last season.

The manner and magnitude of the fall from grace has been the biggest surprise - that I'll grant you - as well as the consistency of rangers.

The mood turn was palpable that day.

Took the shine right off the achievement. It actually led us saying “let’s hear that again; can’t be right”.

In so saying we should still have had enough to beat anyone to the league on the face of it, so it leaves us to think there must have been a far larger negative impact than we could ever have imagined.

Before the season started I had us as marginal favourites for the title, but no more than that. Only a handful of games in though, the alarm bells were ringing loud and clear ... and they've ALWAYS been ringing with Lenny at the helm, bar a few brief spells where he's not got in the way of his own team too much. Lenny didn't look "engaged", or up for the fight, at any stage of this campaign IMO ... that was clear as day from VERY early on. We could still have put in a decent challenge if the Board had done their job and taken decisive action back in Oct/Nov ... as ever, they preferred to take the easy/lazy option of doing feck all that was pro-active. Dermot Desmond has no more than a passing interest in CFC, and that's been blindingly obvious for some time.

BTW, just on Barkas, that was always likely to be a downgrade on Forster. I posted I was happy enough with his signing at the time, but that was only because FF had made it clear he wasn't interested in coming back.

And I dont disagree with that at all.

I was pleased Lenny was kept on and whilst Celtic still had the bigger and more expensive squad who were used to winning things, he was always going to be the most likely achilles heel if there was one.

Fortunately Celtics recruitment was also poor and, as Lennon admitted, there were a few key players who didnt want to be there and their situations were never properly addressed.

But if everyone is being honest there was no real reason to believe this season would go the way it did when it kicked off.

The statement that I think is nonsense is 'The vast majority of the Celtic support called this car crash the day Lenny got the permanent gig.'

There was absolutely no evidence of that on here anyway.

I am pretty sure if we go back to threads Aug/Sept you will find Celtic fans still pretty confident of winning the league and then when the window shut I seem to remember a couple of threads where there was a general consensus that Celtic had a pretty strong transfer window. Maybe only some concern that you didnt sign a winger?

I agree there were one or two Celtic fans who were less confident than others and suggested Rangers had a chance.

But I certainly cant recall a single celtic fan proclaiming 10IAR to be way out with their reach and that the season was going to be over before the split.

posted on 24/3/21

Nobody was happy he got kept on. Most felt celtic would have enough even if he was a bit of an anchor.

Well no

Equally I never saw a Rangers title win by such a margin far less a win before the split. Nor did I see any Celtic fans predicting such a car crash of a season.

And equally I’d guess not one single Rangers fan did either in any respect.

I guess we all called it wrong.

Correct.

And anyone who did predict this season would turn out the way it did should be a very rich man right now.

Rangers title win was an upset and the manner of it was a huge shock.

To say anything else is attempting to rewrite history.

Au contraire!

I don't recall a single one that was out and out Lenny is the man for the job. Of course some may have stayed quiet in light of the vociferous objectors <cough> but my clear recollection is about as good as it got were comments like 'it is what it is I'll get behind it' or 'I suppose he deserves another shot'.

I think there’s 1 or 2 that were happy about the appointment, I’m not sure that was to do with footballing reasons though.

The overwhelming view is disappointment though.

One of many threads at the time. It’s odd Hamish can’t remember the thoughts of most of us on here at the time, seeing as he commented on the thread.

Maybe didn’t show up on the first page of his search engine...
