And what happened with UKIP? Despite being a minor party they managed scare the ruling party enough to get their referendum and influence the electorate enough to win it.

Main reason Referendum was called was to settle a 6th Year common

room vendetta. Cameron wanted to shut up the right wing of his Party

especially Gove & Osborne. Johnson was a Remainer at the time &

jumped ship 2 months before the vote to try to get the Party leadership.

He got it.

Well yeah, UKIP were effectively the further right, anti-EU wing of the Tories. Funded by the same folk and made up of plenty of ex-Tories and defectors.
It gave the anti-EU crowd a voice within the Tory party and something to use as a bargaining chip in ensuring the referendum happened.

Much in the same way most of Alba will be made up of ex-SNP members and defectors. They'll effectively be the pro-independence wing of the SNP. It'll start to worry some of the unionist SNP members as the pro-independence lot will threaten to jump ship to Alba.

I don't see how a comparison to UKIP in this regard would be a bad thing. And as far as I can tell, Alba don't have any of the UKIP "foreigners go home, bring back fox hunting, smoking in pubs and the death penalty" policies that only a cretin would endorse.
So they're a single-issue party without a secondary agenda. Surely the only people actively against them would be those who are against that single issue?
