There have been about 514 leap years since Ceaser created it in 45BC. Without the extra day every 4 years today would be July 28th, 2013. Also, the Mayan calendar did not account for leap year....so technically the world should have ended 7 months ago.
-----------------
Just so you know
The Mayan's never predicted the end of the world in the way movies and the mass media like to say they did. The closest direct translation for what is said to happen at the end of their calender is the "end of the sun".
The Maya are still alive and well in small numbers today and they speak of a period of enlightenment. Apparently this period will be preceded by periods of anger, confusion, and civil unrest as people struggle to deal with the changes.
They say that this is not an overnight thing but something that will take a number of years. Regardless of whether the date on their calendar is exactly right this prediction can be seen unfolding before us - the revolutions across the middle east for example.
I would be surprised if the changes in Julian calendar hadn't been accounted for though - the Mayan's plotted the stars for 10,000 years and the last I heard they were still bang-on.
Anyway, just thought you'd like to know the other side of the story. Google "Mayan Elder Speaks About 2012" and you'll see what i'm talking about. Their message is to simply spread love at this time. Nothing about the world ending.
Apart from anything this prediction is based on a cycle that lasts 20-odd thousand years (from memory) so obviously we're not all going to die!
And yeah, I can't sleep.. but I read all about this ages ago to see if there was anything to be scared about. there's not - it's exciting
Messia was up past 12am last night
