You will definitely find somewhere with a bit of sun if you're heading away in September. It's our favourite time to go to be honest.

_______________

I know it's impossible to say for sure, but do you reckon it will be a goer from Scotland? Don't want to isolate on return etc. or pay for testing.

I'm thinking 70/30 against all things considered.

Hard to know mate, think from England September will be fine but Sturgeon seems to be far more cautious and the people she seems to be listening to don't seem keen on opening the borders for non essential travel.

Me and the Mrs went away may and September with a winter break in the canaries, Egypt, etc.

Always good prices/accommodation those times

If Europe is classified as amber come our break early July we’ll all still be going and take whatever tests they deem we need at the time. Also got a trip booked mid June to the port for a few days and unless it’s actually against the law; we’ll be heading for there too.

Getting farcical now. Stop the death rate, cut down infections and save the NHS it was. We’re way past all that. Be even further away in a couple of months if we think where we’ve come from in the last 3.

Fair dos, mate - keeping the tourism sector in Inverclyde alive even if I am a bit surprised you didn’t go for Gourock?

We did actually look to maybe go somewhere in the U.K. in the event they just pull the shutters down; unlikely as that is.

Mental. Practically everywhere is booked up and what’s left is astronomical. I get they have missed out for the best part of a year but fwck me there is some truly deplorable piisss taking in the pricing.

And where do you go to eat? The U.K. isn’t exactly cafe culture and nor is it a proper beach holiday. Restaurants, hotels are in the main poor relations to what’s available abroad.

Then there’s the weather.

Nah. Baws to all that.

Mrs just sent me over some photos of the bars and restaurants that have tried to open. The sun is out and it’s nice outside but in the main there’s very few takers. Plenty of space should we wish. Just can’t be bothered to be honest.

There’s a small selfish part of me hopes this is all a damp squib and the public vote with their feet and fwck it off. Maybe then the useless tw@ta in government will realise that no; the economy isn’t just going to rebound and no; places can’t operate at a loss while they continue with the ludicrous conditions they impose on an industry that has spent half a billion on making itself safe.

Fwck me; we’ve got councils running around closing pubs and restaurants down with zeal if they haven’t two sides of any covered structure open to the elements. It’s just not worth it to at least 70% of them. This week will hopefully fizzle out.

Ginger hope so. I keep shaking my head about the government up here talking about all these restrictions and conditions when things open, particularly in hospitality.

Don't think they fully appreciate how much some of these places are struggling and what's actually going to be left of the high street when it reopens. We were sold the idea the vaccine was the way out and now we're hearing we don't know enough about it to accelerate things. At this point they are just stuck in a loop, there's no excuse for restrictions lasting any longer than they need to.

My local has 256 bookings for tonight and on Saturday has 350 (more than Mother's Day) and I for one am glad they have.

I will go tonight (and probably every night this week) after work for a couple of pints along with mates as just want to do a little bit to keep them going.

The loss of your local in a community can be devastating; especially for the elderly where it is a place where they can meet their old pals and get out of the house for a bit.

I absolutely do agree with your points about some of these Councils though - what a bunch of utter, cretins. The chap who had spent £50,000 in Wiltshire (IIRC?) to build an outside 'chalet' for his patrons to drink in, then told to pull it down as it didn't conform. FFS - he had been consulting with the council's rules and regs department!

I’m absolutely disgusted mate. Johnson has lost it completely and is now essentially a spokesperson for SAGE and is terrified to make any change. There is still zero consideration or even understanding on the continuing cost to the country and far less the damage to every single industry and market that still cannot plan with any certainty but is losing billions every week.

Who is being surveyed and saying they want these restrictions? The older? Those who don’t go to pubs and clubs? Those who demand the passport?

Because my bet is they will be the same ones who will require the younger generation to earn the taxation that keeps the country going. And they are the ones being dumped throughout all of this with the heaviest casualties by far in losing their livelihoods. How about surveying them?

The same ones who have given up everything to protect the elderly and infirm who now demand they are continually closed down when the country is at 60% vaccination and rising.

Utter disgrace we allow ourselves to be led along like this.

Fwcking scandalous.

I genuinely wish these premises just told them all to fwck off and open regardless. Let’s see them police that.

Interestingly it’s all about to be tested in court next week iirc.

Emailed Leitch for assurances and strongly requesting they get prepared for returning foreign students but only got a stock reply from his team saying the rules are the rules.

So fully vaccinated junior cannot get back in his own country strictly speaking without paying £1700 to go into a hotel? Get that to fck - either the vaccines work or they don't? Ireland loophole closed since they red listed the US. Only US flights are into Heathrow and now waiting on tenterhooks to see what they announce about May 17th.

You'd almost think the governments are for want of a better word enjoying the restrictions and happy to use them to distract from actual governing.

I never really believed that Miller simply because I couldn't believe anyone would enjoy them.

But the longer it goes there's a lot of people who it suits. Some of the scientists have never been more relevant and it probably suits them for this to go on a bit longer.

Well of course. Hardly any crime. Spend billions and pass laws indiscriminately as they see fit with no opposition. Dangle the carrot of “freedom” providing you can be traced within minutes.

Criminalise almost anything. Control how people live their lives.

We’ve only ourselves to blame as the “comfortable” ones give them all the encouragement they could ever need by signing up for more.

Control the entire population within a period of 12 months. Who would have thought it?

It wasn’t pretty determined as a strategy but by God; the benefits for them are all too plain to see. Why would anyone give up that power especially as it has by a quirk of nature been handed to them on a plate?

We are way beyond being in a different situation. As the parlance of these boards go; it’s the goalposts that are continually moved.

We will forever be in fear of an unknown as yet variant to the virus.

I don't even think it's the 1% HB, think there are a lot of people quite happy to live like this which is quite something. The ST had a survey yesterday and at the last count I think it showed 60% had/were enjoying lockdown.

It's shone an interesting light on humans as a species and where we are just now. Even the whole working from home thing, long term that will be a disaster for society if companies move to that model 100%.

Once everyone has been offered the vaccination there can be no more restrictions.

I've been in the safety first camp but will switch sides and actively protest if they try at that stage
