Doherty has looked decent as a RWB, same way Alonso made the PFA team last year playing as a LWB.
If you're picking your team in a 3-5-2 formation then fair enough however as an actual RB someone like Wan Bissaka is far more deserving. Doherty has pretty much been playing RM this season.
Think its wrong to compare the two just because they are playing in the same formation. Alonso was average last year and even the year before, there was just a lack of other options.
Doherty can actually defend, no doubt he'd be fine in a 4, whereas Alonso is crap.
