Chelsea vs Brentford
Big game at Stamford Bridge with Fan knowing anything less than a win could leave his title hopes in tatters. However he couldn’t really have asked for a more difficult challenge against the man renowned for turning rocks into diamonds, a scouting network so good that there are rumours he’s being tapped up by Brighton to head up their scouting division, Welshy brings his talented Brentford team with the intent of showing who really rules London. (Que Gangs of London intro)
Now to the game. Fans refreshed Chelsea team started the game well with some slick passing and nice interplay between the French front three as they drew audible gasps of “ooh la la” from the enchanted Stamford Bridge crowd, most of which were sporting berets whilst eating croissants in honour of their majestic Parisian trio. They didn’t disappoint as Olise cut infield early on and curled a beauty into the top corner. 1-0 Chelsea.
Whilst most other opposition managers would’ve been busy booking their Eurostar tickets to Paris at this stage to try and find their own French gems Welshy did not flinch, for he knew he had his own French wizard who was about to join the party, or should I say “la fete” (yes I did just google how to say “the party” in French) step forward Rayan Cherki. With the Chelsea fans still in the midst of celebration there was soon a stunned silence as the newly crowned best dribbler in France (who knew there was even an award for this??!) picked the ball up on the halfway line and proceeded to walt past 5 Chelsea players as if they were not even there before sumptuously chipping the ball over a mesmerised Martinez. Divine.
Chelsea 1-1 Brentford. Game on.
The second half continued to be end to end with both managers frantically checking the passports of their subs for any hint of Parisian heritage, like a game of French top trumps, as even Fan himself had whipped on a beret by this stage. Welshy, the tactician as ever was about to pull out his trump card by bringing on his substitute goalkeeper Lucas Chevaliar and sticking him up top, only to realise the Frenchman was currently out injured.
A real swashbuckling game where a draw would’ve been a fair result but alas, there was to be a sting in the tail.
With the game deep into stoppage time a Brentford corner was swung in and powered home by the rising Van Hecke! Wait, what, he’s Dutch?! In the midst of rapturous celebrations VAR drew it’s ugly head and after a 12 MINUTE delay whilst the VAR official viewed the replay from every angle, in super slow motion, took a toilet break, before finally advising the referee to take a look at the monitor, the goal was ruled out for an off the ball foul. Shouts of “Sacre Bleu” could be heard from a furious Welshy on the Brentford sideline.
To add to his dismay, the drama was not over. As play resumed, a quick counter from Chelsea saw Olise play the ball in behind the Brentford defence for Mbappe to finish. 2-1 Chelsea.
As the ref blew the full time whistle Welshy was in disbelief, not only at the dodgy VAR decision but by this time Fan was doing his best Joey Barton impression sporting a dodgy French accent in his post match interview. Unbelievable Jeff!
Chelsea 2-1 Brentford
Olise (Barcola), Mbappe (Olise)
Cherki (no assist)

TAB, take a bow If Andy Gray spoke as well they’d have forgiven his misgivings! Great write up
Have to say though too much of a French love in, far too much harmony in that write up for them!
