Luke Shaw

Nah he's averaged 2.3 key passes per game over the last 2 seasons (who scored). He never averaged over 0.9 per game before that. The gap wouldn't be that big through sheer inconsistency, it's just a clear improvement. Anybody who watches him play regularly would know that anyway. Believe what you want. He wasn't half the player he is now in an attacking sense a couple of years ago. He's always been a good defender.

There’s a massive irony in using average statistics as a support for a players level of play increasing as opposed to their consistency

If you think Shaw won player of the month 3 times, and player of the season awards for defensive performances alone your simply wrong. As I say the quality has always been there, but he’s delivering it on a more consistent basis, as you’d expect given he’s now fitter and hasn’t had the same injury problems. You could even go back further to before his injury - he was absolutely brilliant for a short period then but his attacking game was there for all to see.

It's not only me saying this. You'll see other United fans saying it. He's always been exceptional defensively. But whilst he always had a great engine (in spite of Jose's jibes) his biggest problem was when he got in the opposition's final third, he didn't take a touch and pick out a player. Now he does.

Injuries no doubt have held him back and stopped him getting the credit he's deserved as a terrific defender, but in terms of attacking, just getting forward alone isn't enough. Picking a pass is what makes a good attacking full back.

And no, my comment wasn't ironic at all. The gap was far too big for just consistency, with no improvement in the attacking play. It was clearly a massive jump in performance.

And I’ve been saying the opposite for years - that he is good enough and fans underrate him.

Not sure if your seriously trying to say that before his injury Shaws attacking play in that had season had been exceptional. Or if your saying he won player of year on defensive performances alone…

Shaw has started 12 games for England and has 7 assists.
Shaw 2018/19: 40 games, 1 goal, 5 assists.
Shaw 19/20: 47 games, 1 goal, 6 assists

His consistency has definitely improved though despite it not being evident from above stats - the average key passes stars shows that.

Yes it does. It shows that his productivity is much better now. His creativity is massively improved regardless of the finishing. Have you honestly seen him play over that period and not seen a massive leap in terms of his ability to create? You're only kidding yourself.

Apparently:

Luke Shaw provided more assists in 3m 51s vs Ukraine than Zinedine Zidane did in 14 appearances at the Euros

Maguire has been great since returning.

Underwhelmed by Sancho tonight though.

Yeh a few tricks, and nothing as an end product, makes for a pretty average player.

Shaw has been exceptional. Tbf he's been playing well for quite a long time now, but I'm terms of end product he's just finding new levels we've not seen before for club and country. I hope Jose is enjoying it! Maguire is looking awesome too, but not surprising as he's also a top defender. Those two have been easily our best and most important players aside from Bruno over the last year and a half.

This.

Slab didn’t get the credit he deserved last season, he was quality.

Can’t believe some people are still questioning how good Shaw and Maguire are? What else do they have left to prove?? Done it for United and now England ffs...

Next step would be to do it in a team that wins a trophy.

Again Boris makes a statement and again Boris makes himself look like a moron.

Luke Shaw has already won numerous trophies at United, do they not count now or something?

As for Maguire he has still played in teams that have won things during his career so again you’re wrong.

Scrolled past it the other day, better or worse than the Sunderland or spurs ones?

It’s quite interesting because it’s actually ten years old. Decent story, more so when you consider they didn’t win a major cup etc.

Worth a watch.

They were still getting into the top 4 and reached the UCL final around the time of the documentary though.

He was recovering from a double leg-break for the 2016 FA Cup final and on crutches a year later for the Europa League victory over Ajax. For the 2017 League Cup final and 2018 FA Cup final, he was cut from both matchday squads by Jose Mourinho.

...and I'm the moron.

He’s won

English Shield
Europa League

Played in league cup and fa cup winning sides

End of debate. He’s already achieved a hell of a lot and at 25 will win a lot more if he keeps going at the level he’s at now.

English Shield?

Is that an award for being English?

Boris you’re boring me. Shaw has numerous medals from his time at United and is better than any fullback you’ve got. Left or right side. Fact.
