I think if we’d signed Gallagher on top of what did happen, it would’ve been spot on for me. Or any of the rumoured midfielders. Maybe we’ll add there in January? Shifting Kiko was big. Moving Costa is good for him and us.
Overall, if MB’s happy, can’t grumble.
MB happy is definitely the key, he wasn’t a few weeks back, hopefully over that hump now.
Jonty I think the 8 players signed include Bate from Chelsea, the young Celtic defender, Hjelda and I can't remember the other 2 u23 names but they were young 16/17 Yr old forward/winger players from Wigan and Birmingham.
I agree with you on getting our money back on some of the players we signed last year but only a couple and not Lorente as I think he will give us a good 26 to 30 games and he is a calm classy defender and a snip at 18 million and we are far better defensively with him at the helm.
I would personally not have been bothered if we had let Rodrigo go unfortunately we'd be lucky to get
£20 million, and had we done so then I would like us to have bought the American Centre forward who was on loan at Barnsley last year and whose name begins with D and rhymes with bike.
For some reason this forum wouldn't also let me say the german defender who's name begins with K and rhymes with clock. Crazy!

Amari Miller from Birmingham and Sean McGurk from Wigan.
I will say, now the window's closed, we can just get on with supporting the team and enjoying every minute.
dont mean to be funny but you have picked up 2 points out of a possible opening 9 and sit on -4 goal difference.
i said the same thing a couple of weeks ago, european football should not be your aim this season, PL consolidation should be, thats the most important thing.
Sheff utd are a prime example of how a decent return in the pl during your first season can turn into a nightmare in the second.
i like the way Leeds play but Bielsa's stubborness to change things up could be your ultimate downfall.
Would think at the end of this season we would get the bulk of that outlay back from selling Raph, Harrison and Meslier, might be wrong and not that I want to sell them, just an opinion
Think the club are sticking to their principles. Is James better than Costa, does he improve the team? Personally I think the answer is yes. Still appreciate what Costa contributed to promotion and last season.
In respect of overpriced players, again think the club aiming at striking a balance across the squad. Costa, Rodrigo, James maybe a struggle, although James is still young and yet to be trained by Yoda……
Harrison, raph, bamford, Phillips, meslier, Struijk must be worth way way more than cost/ academy so seems club are willing to offset some of those gains for the right player.
U23’s takes time but we seem to have acquired some talent relatively cheap.
Forshaw the unknown for me, looks fit as a butchers dog but can he perform at premiership level?
On balance I don’t think club have done too bad.
Is James better than Costa, does he improve the team?

He improves the bench, the question remains, who is starting 11 makes way for James?

The reason I say Europe is because if we dont attain that, I believe Raphinha leaves and potentially Philips too. We weren't far off lasting season, should have been no reason to not push on.
Completely get your point re 2 points, 3 matches in last season manu and city were both only on 3 points. Do you feel that's an accurate pointer as to how season pans out?
Team/squad I get the point about the team.
Personally I have seen games with Harrison and Raph and thought they are not at the races, option Costa is less than exciting. James will keep both on their toes while the Raph at 10 option is interesting.
5/10
Good
* Signed 2 good players for first team in Firpo and James
* Moved on 22 surplus players, some I would kept mind
* Heldje looks like an astute buy for the future
Bad
* Didn't sign Phillips cover once again, many pundits and ex pro's said it was vital
* Didn't improve the midfield at all
* Lost Alioski who is better and more versatile than James (currently)
* Didn't improve squad depth to cover injuries, covid, suspensions, loss of form, players on international duty and cup runs
* Very light at left back, minus Firpo and Dallas gets moved to a lesser position again
Think we've stood still and gambled on keeping players free of injury.
Would be delighted with another mid-table finish.

I see the same with those 2 at times and problem with small squad is you cant change it AND players know their place is near on nailed on, James changes that for them,
But, Bielsa has said he sees Raphinha as playing on the wing, I dont thing 10 is nailed on, and still trying he question remains, who drops out to accommodate a very costly signing?

Its a challenge with a small squad. Fringe players know they will hardly get a chance and so if those fringe players are experienced players you can have problems. But Bielsa gets results with it, I hope we see him get the best out of all these signings, its not guaranteed, look at Costa, Poveda, Douglas, Rodrigo.

utd and city are both a different kettle of fish to leeds though.
yes they had a slow start, but both squads are superior and it wasnt a case of if, more when their form would pick up.
the PL is much different to what it was 10 years ago where the top 4 was pretty much nailed on and 9 times out of 10 you could predict who was likely to win a game... every team in the PL has the ability to pick up points in every game which is why i think consolidation should be the main aim.
as for Raphina, if he has taken on board bielsa's philosophy then there is no reason why he would demand to leave if the team is going about things the right way.
if he does decide to go, then you cash in and go again... better players than raphina have left teams in the past and they have coped.
as for philips... i dont think that eould effect his decision one way or the other, he is clearly leeds through and through

Kalv and Raph will be gone within 2 seasons, only European football might keep them. They're worth 50 mil each atm, hard to turn down. Grealish springs to mind unfortunately
I wonder if Bielsa sees James as a possible no.10 as well as a substitute winger.
With all the work the club has done trying to secure James’ services, Bielsa must view him as a key part of the team. Perhaps he intends to re-invent him like he did with Kelvin?
* KALVIN. (Blinking autocorrect!)
Also, Leeds have agreed to pay half of Costa's £3million annual wages.
However there is an option to buy at the end of the season.
Hopefully he will perform better with Valencia and we can recoup some of money originally outlaid.
It can be presumed that the BBC are including Bate, Miller, McGurk and Hjelde when referencing the total of incoming players this summer, even though they are designated primarily for the U23 squad.
All those saying Raphinha will stay if we reach Europe - Is that the mickey mouse Uefa Cup or are you expecting Champions League Football on our 2nd season back?
I think UEFA cup enough at this point.

I think you are talking two different players there. Raphinha strikes me as a bit of a nomad, signs, stays a couple of seasons and then moves on, without a doubt he will not be at ER in three or four years time, his motivation may be to win stuff or earn lots of money or play in prestigious tournaments but he will move on regardless of whether we qualify for Europe.
Kalvin on the other hand is a family man who has Leeds running through his veins, of course he wants to earn money and win things but if the club are moving in the right direction, it wouldn't surprise me if he were to stay at ER for the duration of his career.
