What we really need to do is to make an offer to Van Der Sar that he cannot refuse.

DOF role gets to hire and fire whomever he thinks fit.

ETH is the well paid manager of the biggest club in his own country, who are currently top of their domestic league and are through to the KO stages of the Champions League.

Do you think he'd give all that up in an instant to accept the Poisoned Chalice?

I don’t think that you’re far wrong on that one, Doris.

The role of Manager of Manchester United Football Club is, and will be, for some time to come, a poisoned chalice.

He literally came out and begged for the job a yr or 2 ago and the clueless board overlooked him. As for ETH, he's the obvious choice for the job. Saw Ajax's UCL away record under him and I was stunned, they've lost once (3-2 to Liverpool a few seasons back) in 14 games and have beaten Real, Juve, Spurs, Dortmund while drawing with Bayern, Chelsea. We have to do whatever it takes to get him. And like someone said earlier, he makes players better. I mean, Haller has 7 goals in the UCL and Tadic has probably scored and assisted more than almost every other player in Europe in the last 3 seasons.

The Glazers don't want someone like VDS as chief exec. Ed Woodward has been a success from their point of view. He has led the club according to the objectives they have set him. It's utter fantasy that they would even contemplate having a football man in charge of their business, for which the actual football is basically a footnote.
