Santa Claus is coming to Town
- the Springsteen version has, perhaps, the most Christmastide joy.
All Quiet on the Western Front
- this Elton John song (Bernie Taupin lyric) is truly remarkable, almost tear-jerking, if not quite full of ye olde xmas spirit. Worth four minutes of anybody’s life.

Kevin Wilson! That takes me back more than 30 years. One of my customers gave me a tape of his when I was a pub landlord. For obvious reasons I couldn't play it in the pub until shut-in time. Years later, when I went to Tasmania to work, the friends I met were amazed that a non-aussie knew all the words to his songs.
My favourites... Living Next Door To A*** and It Was Over.
He was sexist, racist. everything-ist and the BBC would have banned him, and probably did...although they employed a certain other Aussie for many years whose interests were less acceptable than just tying kangaroos down.
I have tried to post this a couple of times but my use of the usual aussie term for myself as a British person is apparently unacceptable on this site. The one that begins with P and ends in M or MIE and has an O in it.
Ole at the wheel! number 1 christmas song this year
As to the OP, my vote goes to The Pogues for the reality of the song and then Wizzard for the feel-good factor. They reflect both sides of Christmas depending on your situation at the time.
Kevin Bloody Wilson.......my dad had a tape of his which my borhter and I nicked and listened to ourselves.
Mick the master f@rter was our favourite back in the day
as for xmas songs......the journey home after your last day at work before crimbo, with Chris Rea blaring oot....its gotta be done!
Driving Home For Christmas was a great song but I don't think anybody would remember it if it had been sung by Cliff Richard or Kylie Minogue. Definitely a case of right singer - right song.
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas, a song that truly defined society at the time 👍

It would all depend on what Kylie was wearing when she sang it tbh.
That's a shout St3vie - not a favourite song of mine or one I'd go to put on other than than drive home from work when it is just perfect
Has anyone mentioned that one about the spaceman? That’s a good one.

The United v Celtic game is about to be called off. No more tickets being sold and catering is being cancelled.
As for the OP, Mariah Carey's Christmas song is the best one.
