Big difference between saying he WANTS to be manager beyond the 6 months, or that hed see IF he were asked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If he only moved to United so that he would eventually move upstairs then I think that he would have said that. He seems pretty straight talking. The fact that he didn't do that suggests that he fancies the permanent role.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No. it suggests hed consider it if asked.

Wonder when he spoke to Carrick considering last night at 10 Carrick came out pretty clearly and said that he hadn't spoke to him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not sure who to believe with the Carrick situation.

Carricks demeanour throughout has suggested he was walking away, in hindsight.

Also the way Bruno hugged him as soon as the game finished suggested it was a goodbye and thanks tyoenof hug. Yet think it was Maguire saying they found out after the game in the changing rooms.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Carrick sounded pretty genuine after the game when he said he wanted to spend some time with his kids. I think that he walked.

He's mentioned twice how he wasn't happy with yesterday's performance in a calm and measured way. Seems like a classy guy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What is he going to do? Go on off on a complete rant and tangent before he has even managed the team for 1 minute.

I think that he will be happy with either role, but this might represent the one opportunity in his managerial career to win the big trophies.

More quotes on the matter:

“We have never spoken about what will happen in the summer. Right now I’m fully aware they might be looking for a new manager.

“Maybe if they ask my opinion and everything goes well and we develop the team, I might even make the same recommendation to the board that I did at Leipzig twice, when I recommended it might be a good idea to keep working with me for one year."

He wants alright. So bad he can almost taste it.

Could just be tactical. He might be mindful of the fact that players' psychology could be affected by the notion he's temporary. The idea of continuity beyond the summer reduces the chance that they're distracted or that he has less authority.

Maybe if his backroom role after the summer is more formalised, so he feels he has some clout and not just influence, he'll be more attracted to handing over the coaching reins.

--------------------------------------------

I think, well I hope he's somebody we can trust to do what's right by the club and not himself.

I don't see the point in him recommending himself staying on as manager for another season if somebody like Ten Hag is available.

Oh yeah absolutely. Im.nitbsuggesting carrick didn't want to go. I'm just saying the responses from others are hard to judge on when he made the decision and when everyone in the team and club knew.

I'm leaning towards he had already stated he was leaving. I think Ralf knew, Bruno knew and Maguire saying they only just found out is least likely to be true

"Studying PE and English on exchange at the University of Brighton, he decided to keep himself fit whilst broadening his understanding on the nuances of non league football."

So we went from one PE teacher to another

Yeh, from what I have read, that seems to be his outlook.

Just finished watching the whole presser. I was very impressed in the way he talked about the game.

I am not expecting much difference from the first few games as there will be little time on the training pitch. But we will see if there is a different approach mentally.

Rangnick asked what he thought of the game against Arsenal: "All of you saw the game. The first half was shaky with this unlucky goal. Even myself, I said where is David [de Gea]? After that goal, it was a major blow for the team, they were lacking confidence."

Rangnick: "It was important to get the equaliser before halftime. You could see the potential that was in the team. To transfer the game away from our own box into an area where we have our assets."

Why rule himself out when he might be prepared /required to stay on?

He wouldn't.

But I don't think that he is just prepared to stay on. I think that he wants to stay on. He's already making noises about staying another year.

Not expecting much at the weekend. But since the game vs Young Boys is a dead rubber, he should be able to have some good sessions with the team next week.
