Look at back at his performance vs Utd at OT few weeks back. He came on as a sub and twice was found in acres of space when cross came in. He just didn’t attack the ball. A real scorer would’ve snatched at least one of the two chances. Not sure if that can be taught, but let’s see.
He gets into some really good positions and then misses easy chances, definitely needs to improve on his finishing. Without the deflection the gk would have saved his goal today.
I said for both ESR and Saka last season that their all round play is excellent but they really need to start delivering end product. I was quite concerned, I even wanted Willock to stay to provide goals from anyone who isnt a striker.
Needless to say, ESR has more than surpassed expectations. Saka is getting there too. Happy days. Now it looks like we need a damn striker
If he carries on this trajectory He should get his end product, he’s still quite young, finding the perfect final ball or shot is usually always the last thing a top player develops in their early 20s. But yes he’s definitely taking players on much more recently, more in the way the way he was at end of last season and in the euros. It’s also ramped up since Martinelli’s return, I wonder if that’s encouraged him more when he sees his opposite winger running at defenders most chances he gets. When you have a player who’s willing to do that, it inspires performances from others
Don’t forget that this is a 20 year old kid who first got regular minutes in the first team as a left back. Tbh where he is so far is pretty staggering already. End product is already coming and will only get better. The ceiling for him is ridiculous.
