Forest v Leicester - Match Thread

Interesting downbeat appraisal of Forest's chances in this match, which is effectively a free hit for you.

Leicester's injury woes have severely impacted on our season with massive disruption to the defence from long term injuries, losing Evans, Fofana, Castagne, Bertrand and Ricardo; although there is some hint that the latter is apparently back in training I would not expect him to start. Justin has only recently returned from a year long absence. There is also the minor loss of Vardy up front!

Brendan had better not play a weakened side for our first visit to the City Ground for 8 years, he is unlikely to get much praise if we get knocked out by an improving Forest side with an impressive manager in Steve Cooper!

Good to know that Grabban isn't available though.

I would love us to beat Leicester

Over the past few years, they’ve become just another average Premier League side - yeah they’ve won a few things, but they were never going to achieve what we did consistently over 5 years or so back in the late 70’s

On top of that, they’ve become quite cocky in the achievements, I think it’s got something to do with the fact that no matter what they do or achieve, they know deep down we’re a bigger and more successful club than they’ll ever be - plus the fact that their local derbies are against Coventry and Northampton Town - they always tried to muscle themselves in alongside us and Derby

As things stand, we have nothing to lose really, and if we approach the game like we did against Arsenal we have a good chance of beating them and I for one would love to knock them off their perch 👍🏼

Interesting comments in response to Linekars FA cup jibes.

In an alternative reality Nottingham Forest would have beaten Anderlect and gone to final of the UEFA cup in 1984 and obviously won the FA Cup in 1991.

Lineker is nothing more than an irrelevant, boring tossa - both him and Shearer are two of a kind

Loved Lineker as a player. I used to go to Barcelona a lot as a kid, so was great watching him with my family.

As a pundit...I can’t stand the guy.

Thanks for posting the injury news Nuneaton. If we had Grabban / Worrall i’d feel a lot more confident.

Tricky game. A year ago I’d have been pretty confident here, but Forest look like they’ve landed on a good manager and have good organisation. Leicester are finally getting a few back from injury, but we have no consistency and can’t defend against anyone. Nottingham should be confident that they can score here and it might just be a case of Leicester having to score more.

It might come down to the approach of the two teams. I’d imagine that promotion is more of a priority for NF whereas Leicester are the holders and this is their only chance of meaningful silverware (if you assume that the Europa Conference League is less meaningful). I can’t see Leicester playing a weakened side, although whatever team plays is vulnerable defensively.

I’m expecting a close game and a narrow win by either side. Naturally I hope that will be a win for LCFC.

I’m not so sure about that. Surely our local derbies are against Coventry City and Peterborough United - not Northampton Town?

Unless you’re a Tigers fan of course

I don't agree with that part Rev. In the sixties and early seventies, Leicester WERE our great rivals. I remember many a punch-up at Filbert Street.

Derby didn't cross my radar until BC got there, and in those days, Notts, with Jimmy Sirrel, were briefly in the old first division as well, although never were our rivals in the way that Leicester at the time and Derby are now.

The rest I agree with though.

To answer seriously I think I comes down to the era you grew up in.

For me, when I was 15-25 Leicester and Derby were festering in the 2nd division and trying to get promoted. I loved our Derby Derbies watching Steve Walsh fight with Gabiandini (sp) and us trading Kitson for Gee and Ormondroyd!! I also lived in Ashby so Derby will always be “my” closed rival.

But I appreciate before the 80s/90s Forest Derby had a great rivalry and probs weren’t too bothered by us.

However, and here’s the point. No matter how much all of us pretend and protest that this “isn’t” a derby, I’m pretty sure that most of not all forest and Leicester fans saw that draw and got a little bit excited.

The speed of the ticket sales, the fact it’s on tv, the reality is, it’s a derby and we all know it.

It may not be the biggest rivalry, the biggest hatred, the most important, but it sure is a derby.

Let’s enjoy it for that.

But I agree with Rev, we’re a well average arrogant prem team so take us lightly please.

Notts Forest - nothing before Clough, nothing since Clough.

They didn't even have a rivalry with Derby until Clough managed both sides.

And thank goodness they do have that rivalry so at least one other team finds them relevant.

Around the mid-60s (1965/66 possibly), and just a few years before I saw my first City match at Filb, I’m sure there was a match where the trouble on the terraces was so bad that Matt Gillies & Johnny Carey (Forest manager) had to come down to the pitch and appeal for the fighting to stop. It might have been the game where Crossie scored twice for us.

I’m sure I’ve got this right (unless you know better, of course) 😉

It would appear that ForestTV is not carrying RN for this match, so I'll have to watch and listen to BBC.

Bummer...
