Kell Brook 4th round

Honestly, no clue. Khan hasn't been in a competitive match-up in about 4 years unless you count being served up for Crawford to beat down.

In their pomp I always fancied Khan to out-box Brook and get a decision. I can't (a) see him out-boxing Brook now for 12 rounds or (b) resisting the urge to get involved in a tear up at some point.

My prediction is they both look a shadow of their former selves, Khan looks tired after 3 rounds and Brook finishes him in the mid-rounds.

Hope I'm wrong and they both roll back the years and put on a show.

Personally I'm not buying the idea that they're both completely washed up even if they are likely at the end of their careers. We've seen fighters carry on well into their late thirties and even early forties now. Both of these guys are still mid 30's and Khan's inactivity may even help as there's much less miles on the tank as a result.

Depends on the fights though surely? Khan has suffered a few brutal knock-outs. Brook had a bad eye injury as well losing his last 3 big fights.

My expectations are low tbh. Can they go from very low levels of activity to a headline performance? It's possible I guess but I wouldn't put any money on it.

In fairness those are the only losses in Brook's career and they were against three all time great fighters in GGG, Spence and Crawford. In my opinion anyway.

Brook was matched against Golovkin two weight classes above him and his career likely would have taken a different and better trajectory if he'd stayed at welter or light middle.

Eddie Hearn has to take a big chunk of the blame for getting Brook to move up two weight classes to fight an absolute monster. It was only ever going end in defeat and Hearn should never have made that match up.

I see this as a legitimate headline performance. Especially compared to some of alleged box office BS we've been served up in recent times in boxing.

I don't think that's in any way controversial - he's only lost to great fighters. But how many come back from 3 fairly bad defeats and one serious eye injury to perform at a high level when they're 35? Off the top of my head, I can't think of any. Perhaps you can say Pac operated at a high level after defeats and at an older age but he's a different calibre.

And I agree it's a headline fight. It remains to be seen whether either serve up a headline performance...

its all relative though, if they're both "shot" then in theory come in a ta similar standard as each other, it could still be a decent bout, add in the pretty authentic dislike of each other

yeah cos end of the day we're all melts for a fight no matter how late it comes Calzaghe vs Roy Jones Jr being the perfect case in point

I'd honestly given up all hope that this fight would ever happen so I'm just glad it is now. It's a given that it's happening too late but we can either accept it or not watch it. I guarantee that millions will watch it though.

Tickets still available for this fight at MEN which tells you the public interest in this fight. I'll find a stream and watch it.

Khan has made sure the fight is at 149 and there is a hydration clause which favours him. Brook was quite overweight when they announced this fight so he will have done some miles to make weight and I think that will favour Khan against a weight drained Brook.

posted on 16/2/22

Yeah I heard about the strict rehydration clause that the Khan camp would have insisted on in order to disadvantage Brook who's stated several times that getting down in weight to 147 kills him these days. So you can imagine it's no different in getting down to 149.

Khan worrying about Brook's power as well, probably thinks that he'll diminish it at 149. Probably right. If these guys fought at 154 or even 152 then Brook would be way more in his element.

Interesting how quiet the Khan fanboys have been in the run up to this. I remember back in the day they used to be everywhere shouting about how great Khan is and that he was going to beat Mayweather or Pacquiao if he fought them.

To be fair, Khan did look very, very good for a while. Around 2009-2010 it wasn't an outrageous shout that he'd give FMJ or Pac a decent fight, albeit winning would have been a step too far even at his peak.

I never understood the heat Khan used to get. Yeah he's cocky and dumb as a post but he's not the only boxer you could say that about.

Yeah I remember hearing this a lot around 2014/15 though. Before we got the May Pac fight.

Regarding Khan I've always found him to be at least slightly disingenuous. Especially when it came to Brook and his shifting reasons not to fight him all those years.
