Ainsley Maitland-Niles…😐

It’s a shame this is how it’s turning out if what you say is correct. He should look at a guy like James Milner. I always thought he was most similar to him. Milner kept his head down at start of his career and played in every position he was asked to play in. Majority thought he wasnt good enough to go into being the player he had gone onto become. His intelligence was a big factor in that. AMN needs to look at that direction.

Really thought he could push on as a full back after the FA cup win. It just never worked out. If he wants to play at a big club, he'll have to accept a utility role. Might aswell be at his boyhood club, instead of somewhere else. We won't even get that much for him.

At least he'll be happy now we didn't sell him to Everton last summer.

Right now Everton might be as good as he can do. 😐

Difference between Maitland-Niles and utility players like Milner, Delph etc is that the latter were both good enough to comfortably play CM for bottom half of the table clubs yet took up unfamiliar positions to further their career with bigger teams.

Maitland-Niles isn't, and never has been, good enough to play CM in the Premier League.

Wing back was/still is, his best chance of making it. Won't be at Arsenal though and we should have taken one of the countless opportunities that we had to cash in on him.

If as seems highly probable he comes back to Arsenal unwanted by Roma his market value will then likely have gone down - at 24…

Never understood the clamour amongst fans to play him centre mid. At no point did he show he was capable of the levels we need in that position. Could of been a decent right back but we now have better in Tomi.

At best I think he could of proved to be a useful utility/squad player, a role in which I can't imagine he'd of been content with. A shame as you always want to see the academy lads push on and do well. But ultimately I think we missed a trick not cashing in, ala Willock.
