Bit premature.

Hopefully the boys get 4th and then happy days, tied him down before he could find better terms.

There's still 4 games left to play. As it stands, Arsenal could finish anywhere between 3rd and 6th place.

Any manager who can achieve this with a bunch of kids, not to mention the limited talents of Messrs. Lacazette and Nketiah, deserves a new contract.

We're nowhere near good enough yet for the Champions League, but Arteta has somehow found a way to turn this rabble of kids into contenders.

Kids? You got about 2. The rest are 30m+ failures.

Circumstances have really helped them though.

Spurs & United in turmoil, changing their managers mid season. Leicester really off the pace crippled by injuries - Wolves & WHU always likely to fall away helped by the latters Europa involvement. No Europe or lengthy cup runs for Arsneal....not to mention pulling out of games with one covid case. That was not possible a week later.

You can 100% see the progress but I feel its a slightly false position.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not that uncommon for one or two of the "big 6" to have crap league campaigns though, last year Leicester were in the top 4 hunt because Chelsea and Liverpool were way off the pace. Not to mention Spurs and Arsenal being very poor.

Far too early to give him a new contract. At least wait till end of season. 3 more years ffs. This is a tragic day

If we get 70+ points you can hardly put it down to other teams. 4th in the last 3 seasons got 67, 66 and 71 points, so 3 wins would take us above all of them.

Spurs have only played 5 games more than us, United 7. Dunno why their fans keep going on about it.

Arsenal have had their own problems too. COVID outbreak at the start of the season, which the authorities refused to postpone. Wantaway captain, lack of strikers, youngest squad in the league, etc. Injuries aswell, but that applies to everybody of course.

I've noticed lots of rival fans refuse to give this young team credit. We're not perfect, but we've made big strides this season.

You've had no European football and us and Spurs have sacked managers on top of that.

Let's see how you get on playing more than 1 game a week for most of the season.

Hopefully we will modify the squad to suit dealing with European football. People clinging on to the weird idea we won't improve the squad like we did last summer.

United have only played 7 games more than arsenal I believe. Spurs even fewer at 5.

posted on 6/5/22

Not sure why other clubs sacking managers is a negative for Arteta. Surely they both did so to improve themselves - and considering they both were around the same points as us at the time I would suggest that should mean they both finish above us.

Any turmoil was created by themselves, and we avoided that by backing the manager.

Just so you know - not only have we got the youngest squad in the Prem but we have under 25s like Tierney, ESR, Saka, Martinelli, Ramsdale, White, Tomiyasu, Odegaard, Tavares, Lokonga who are all first team regulars and will be for years to come (ok not Tavares who is toilet but you get my drift)

And stop telling us you are "young" When was the last time you saw a PL team of 50 year old's.
We both know this "young" or "developing" tag is just a reason to either seek even more praise, or usually an excuse when you lose. Arsenal have been doing this for about 7/8 yeas now.

I do get yoir drift Dan! Apart from the 2 good kids from the academy they all cost a lot of money. Add toilet men like Xhaka, Pepe and Lacazette. It aint a under 12 jumble sale.

I beg to differ.

Arsenal were known for regularly fielding geriatric lineups with an average age of 30 until just over 2 seasons ago.

It was actually our company policy to bring in about two 30+ year-old rejects from elsewhere every season. Often on massive contracts.

Our youth-skewing transfer policy over the past 2-3 seasons has been a complete paradigm shift compared to the decade before that.

So what if Arteta doesn't turn out to be the one who eventually takes us back to the "promised land"?

We could have very easily gone on and changed managers every season for a decade until we got lucky.

We could also have gone on spending millions on "ready-made" products like Mkhitaryan, Pepe and Mustafi. Plugging the gaps with 30+ year old players looking for a final pay-day.

An unsustainable formula that has seen the business side of the club go on a run of 4 back-to-back seasons in the red. With players we couldn't shift, and a Champions-League-level wage bill.

I'm a patient man. And I recognise that Arteta is probably the only manager with enough goodwill among the fanbase to allow him to provide this youthful squad with the structure of a few unbroken seasons together. Despite all his obvious shortcomings.

In any case, we can always bring the pitchforks out in another 18 months if he ends up sailing HMS Arsenal into an iceberg.
