Yeah Sainz just never really looked like overtaking Max. Was probably a bit of both in terms of how good Max was and Sainz just lacking that killer instinct. He couldn't quite get close enough before the back straight each time.

Sainz is overcompensating.
Unfortunately for him, the reality is that he can't match Charl' inherent ability to wring the car and place it in the right areas to extract optimal laptime over 1 lap and particularly over a racing distance.
Sainz' style is naturally reactive (similar to Bottas), whilst the likes of Charl, Max and Lewis (who are on an entirely different level) are instinctive racers.
(Russell may just join that list soon, with the way he's driving at a top team and adapted seamlessly).

Looking at the whole race sainz was not the fastest car. It was still max. Pit stops and SC gave the impression sainz was faster but he wasn't
