Hey no problem if the guy wants to say we are operating well above spurs, aresnal even your lot now. Arguments can be well made for them. But on a par with city, cmon man.

What teams in world football are on a par with city? Psg, utd, anyone else?

doesnt like the fact that people mention this 1 point difference between the teams across the last 4 seasons. Thats us setting things up for our own agenda.
———————————-

I agree with you on the other 2 points, but not on this one.

The whole 1 point across 4 seasons narrative is just something the media came up with to make this rivalry look closer than it really is. It’s disingenuous.

Reality is that City have dominated the PL for the last 5 years and have been a level above everyone else, including Liverpool. Which is why they give you the runaround every time they play you head-to-head (even at Anfield). They’ve won 4 of the last 5 PLs for goodness sake but the BBC would have us believe that Liverpool are close to them

Cant argue with the overall trophy haul, heavily in their favour but in them 4 seasons 2 titles have been won by city by a point. The other 2 have been won by a landslide by each team. In the 2 seasons we lost the league by a point we advanced to the champs league final each season winning 1 of them. If thats the definition of a team being a level above us in your opinion fair enough. For me the closer analogy is a flip of a coin between the two but Id concede city better, just.

Of course the media would drum that story up though as theres absolute no story if they reported theres 27 points between the 2 in the last 5 years. Who would give a bakers fack about that. Its more just an interesting stat rather than it being some story.

For me, the difference isn't what we pay our top players or what we've paid for our top players. The difference is the wages the bench warmers are on and the price paid for those players.

City's bench is littered with £50m players. And why are these top players so happy to have limited playing time? Because their wage packet is very competitive. We are a rung down on that one but have caught up in both regards more recently hence how competitive we've become.

posted on 2/7/22

Point 3- salahs new deal now automatically appears to mean we pay city sort of wages as the going rate. He is the 1st person in the history of the club to be paid this sort of money. How many do city have in excess of 300k? I dont know the answer, id guess 5 or 6.

City and Liverpool have been the dominant forces in English football for the past four seasons, and in the midst of another gripping title race it was regularly pointed out that only one point has separated them since the beginning of the 2018/19 season - City earning 358 to Liverpool's 357 but winning three titles to one. This expertly reveals the fine margins that have separated the teams, but is also an artificial deadline: roll it back another year and the gap is 26 points; consider all of Pep Guardiola's time in England and it is greater still; measure from when Jurgen Klopp arrived and it is even bigger.
---------------------------------------------
True, the media are trying to make out it's neck and neck since both managers took the helm.

Are they, have you ever seen that said? I think anyone with reason has always known city were for a period streets ahead of us. To our credit we have cut that gap but are still just behind.

I really dont get the hype with that 1 point in it stat. You guys seem to make more it than anyone else does. Its literally just a stat. No different to when soccer saturday run stats across the screen saying portsmouth are unbeaten in their last 7 matches with crewe dating back to 1947, or something similar.

Surely there can be acknowledgement that given you guys are 3-1 up in titles won across the last 4 seasons yet overall only 1 point splits the 2 teams, thats quite am interesting stat? I dont imagine in any of the years utd dominated and won say 3 out of 4 titles there would be a stat as similar.

Also if thats true fair enough. Id have thought haaland, grealish, de bruyne and sterling without hesitation but fair enough

I just find it laughable that the media have just chosen an arbitary date to start comparisons of the 2 managers. .

It could be argued that Jurgen had an extra season to get used to the PL.

cant be right sterling de bruyne grealish haaland is 4 off the top of my head? Stones is on more than vvd who is our 2nd highest earner. Not sure if VVD still has a match highest earner clause since he signed a new contract just before salah.

KdB was our highest paid player by quite a margin.

Haarland has now joined him on about £320k a week, no other players come close.

It's hard to know what the going rate is these days with Sancho reportedly on £350k a week at United.

But again surely its chosen because its the period of time when liverpool began to challenge city? And in that time its been pretty close with city claiming the big prize more often than not.

Again, I dont think youll find a lfc fan out there that wouldnt admit we were miles behind city 5 years ago, everyone and their dog knew that, but we strengthened and began to compete.

Ive honestly never seen the media when looking at klopp and peps overall records just ruling out the 1st 2 years. Are you telling me the media just completely forget that pep has 4 titles and act like its only 3?

idk where you get ur figures but i read kdb signed a 20.8m a year contract basically 400k a week. Read Haaland is on 100m for 5 years which would be similar to kdb, and the total cost with agent fees and transfer fee for him will be well in excess of 200m.
