A good point. When the bills go up again in October watch everyone flock back in.

I'm only a 20 minute drive from work, and with being hybrid I could easily switch to 3 at work, 2 at home, or 4/1 depending on which bills I need to save on

Also, if you schedule meetings in work or with suppliers you can get lunch brought in or go out somewhere so that's money off the food bill

Doing 3 days in the week at the moment at office, 2 days at home. Change of scenery and surroundings really helps. Doing more in office at moment to take advantage of air con, otherwise there would be no escaping the heat, so enjoying coming in at the moment.

Always have the choice though really, and it is nice to have that freedom. I feel that is a big thing for mental health in people, not to have to drag themselves into the office if really struggling at any particular moment.

Pre-pandemic, wfh was never something you'd ever expect to be obtained in my line of work. One of the few good things to come out of the pandemic, really has changed the whole perspective of things, change for the good.

Working from home is... OK. I can get up later, avoid an awful commute, relax a little more, still do my work just as well and, best of all, I've saved a fortune. But the office can give your day a bit more structure and meaning, plus there's the social side. I try to do two days in the office per week, which suits me. The main issue with home or office is the sheer boredom, but then I do have one of the dullest jobs on earth.

My job isn’t hugely exciting either. That’s why I prefer home.

We obviously had it in place for the last 2 years like most firms but we've just had it all taken away. Everyone must work in the office Mon-Fri now and it's caused some unrest for sure.

Personally I don't mind being in the office and feel I'm more productive when I am. I know people who feel the opposite too though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I can imagine. There would be uproar if mandatory office attendance was brought in where I work.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We've had some uproar and resignations. However I work for a big company with over 1000 employees so they just aren't that bothered. You're just a number in the grand scheme of things.

Also they invested in some new premises for us about 6 months before Covid struck so I think a lot of it is down to that really.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’d quit if my company done this. I work for a global pharmaceutical multinational
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The thing is I have been with this company now for going on 5 years. I signed my contract when Covid didn't exist and hybrid working wasn't common.
It's the people who have joined us in the last 24 months who probably feel worse off as all they have ever known is hybrid and it's been taken away.

Also the thing that people need to remember is that our inner cities will just die if everyone just works from home for the rest of time. How are cafes, shops and restaurants in Manchester going to survive without commuters coming into the city to work?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I get your points especially about local business. However from a personal perspective I will never be a 5 day a week in the office ever again. Those days are over for me

It has its advantages and disadvantages.

I work on a manufacturing site, so have to be in a few days a week. I've found 3 days on site and 2 WFH is about right for me. WFH on a Friday is definitely a benefit this time of year, as I get to avoid all the caravans heading into Devon for their holidays.

I was WFH for three days a week before the pandemic and love it. I can finish at 1pm and go play golf or take the dog down the beach for a walk.

Not sitting in my car for three plus hours a day is also a bonus.

Personally, I'm significantly more productive and better informed when I'm in the office and interacting with other people. I'm also just happier speaking to people rather than a screen all day.

That said, there are define work/life balance benefits to be had when working from home.

So atm I'm 50% wfh and 50% office. I wouldn't want more home working than that, I need to actually speak to people in my day!

I am up by then to let the dog out so might as well start my work day. I have pretty much always been out of bed early anyway.

Haven't done it but I would assume there are lots of positives with only a few drawbacks. Fuel savings and car ware will be brilliant for any commuters but then electricity/heating usage will increase as your using yours instead of the office.

I much prefer working from home. I work remotely from the rest of my team as they're not based in the same office anyway. No real benefit in me driving in to sit at a different desk.

I’d be getting rid of the dog if that’s when he wanted out

I more or less worked for myself. I never liked working from home even though I was the boss, so to speak.
I just enjoyed going in, putting the coffee on, and collecting post, emails, messages, whilst I drank my coffee.

As a part-time burglar and drug dealer, WFH has ruined me, tbh.

posted on 14/7/22

Didn’t like it at first but now I love it. The company I work got offers the flexibility to go into the office when required, or go in later to avoid rush hour. I log in earlier when wfh and probably finish little later but during the day I do wonder off a lot more, pop to the gym etc so hours are still made up. Plus save fuel and mileage on the car.

Hybrid is about perfect for me, keeps me in a solid routine and social with people I otherwise wouldn't see. My office situation is pretty good in that it's a 15 min cycle for a commute and there's a gym here for my lunch.

I tend to try and absolutely smash everything out on the days I'm in the office and then when I'm at home I'm just available for anything that comes up, while I try and get life admin stuff done so my partner and I can make the most of the weekend.

Honestly when I was in 5 days a week I would put more effort into looking busy than I would my actual work and it was mentally exhausting. Stupid as it sounds, but without that strain I feel much happier.

Hate WFH. Would much rather be around people. Haven’t worked from home with the exception of a few days since Oct 2020
