The Americanisms that are being forced into football annoy me. "Clutch" especially.

Hit the big man up top isn't heard as much

Also, there are now no shock transfers, what with social media, we know before the player in question does!

I already miss two of Bielsa’s favourites, “unbalanced” and “evolved”.

What word would you use to replace clutch?

I would just stick with saying "he's the man for the big occasion" as they always did in the past

Numbers for positions irritates me slightly. The more we move away from the traditional 1-11, the more people seem determined to say "he plays no. 10" or " he's a good no. 6" , even if he has 18 or 39 on his back.

"Quality" is the term that annoys me in punditry, simply because it is used as a way of not having to explain or provide insight: "There was no quality on that cross." It's just lazy.

So you therefore understand why using 1 word rather than 6 is preferable....

"The turnover" seems to be a popular phrase now. It used to be one I associated with rugby league.

So just shouting "clutch?" I'd assume the commentator had Tourettes tbh. Why don't they refer to man of the match as MVP? Far quicker. Have a word with yourself 😂

I think you're just he's the man for the big occasioning at straws here.

However, saying he's a real clutch player isn't much quicker than saying he's the man for the big occasion and doesn't make him sound like he's running on car parts

He's clutch.

That's all that needs to be said.

So a player just scores a last minute goal and the commentator just responds with "he's clutch." Sorry, nah, I don't see where it would actually fit into the context of a game of football as just a two word phrase. But if you can then fair enough, you're the real MVP
