We may yet sign someone up front, of course. Saying you'd go with Martial over Ronaldo isn't necessarily the same as saying we can rely on Martial over any extended period.

This club have chased one player all summer and in my opinion we are not getting him. The reason why this club can't afford to lose Ronaldo is because if we are to go with this whole thinking that Ten Hag only wants a specific type of player, I am telling you this club and the board can't deliver that player this window, so we will be relying on Martial.

VC’s stance on this is similar to a few other people’s (you’ve said that you think opting for Martial over Ronaldo is ‘relying on Martial’ - this is clearly spelled out in the above exchange).
