He is difficult to spot
To be fair to him, playing a smaller defender was never a problem in the long history of football, as long as you pair him with a taller on.
Famous pairings:
De Boer & Stam: 180cm & 191cm
Cannavaro & Nesta: 176cm & 187cm
Carvalho & Terry: 183cm & 187cm
I don't remember them being targetted because their partner would do the heavy lifting aerial wise while they were the ballers. But then again, Martinez is no Carvalho and Maguire certainly is no Stam

Azpi played full back or on either side of a back 3.
Don’t remember him ever playing CB in a 4
Arsenal definitely dodged a bullet there!!!
