He would walk into our midfield
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s picked for Brazil over Fabinho. Will he be better in the PL? Who knows.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How often were others picked over scholes, etc...
Means nothing really. Fabinho is a solid player.

Obviously I hope Casemiro does well but the pessimist in me is expecting a massive flop.

How many of us have watched him enough - let alone live - to be sure either way?

People didn’t rate Carrick, but he was absolutely superb at what he was in the team to do.

I couldn’t care less what people think, if the player fits into the system the manager wants to play and brings the best out of others.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. The absolute dogs’ abuse Carrick got on here year after year was just bizarre, frankly.

It’s about ETH finding a balance and picking the right players for the right games.

It’s like saying Rodri isn’t as talented as de bruyne or fabinho isn’t as creative as Thiago. Completely different players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe, I’m theorising, it’s because he was a tough tackler who could pass, to be fair he was immense by all accounts, can’t say I’ve watched loads of him.

He’s judging against his own quality. Whilst probably watching this guy at minimal amounts, as previously said.

Which is never a good approach.

Sourness is undoubtedly a bitter old fool, but Casimero got away with murder in the CL semi final against City, he should have been sent off but for some bent refereeing. It will be interesting to see if he gets away with all his cynical fouling at Penited, which is probable.

Souness has now turned his attention to Martinez

“We’ve played 12 games. There’s a lot to like about him, I like his aggression. The first thing he did when they played Liverpool at Old Trafford, he’s gone right through Mohamed Salah,” Souness said.

“Salah for the rest of the game was looking for him. I like that. That’s professional sport, he did his job very early on Mo Salah and for the rest of the game looking over his shoulder.

“I just feel when you are that size you will get caught. You will get pinned in the box.
“We are talking about the Premier League. He will [get found out]. At 5ft 9 and he’s playing against guys who are 6ft 2 then he will get pinned occasionally”
Souness highlighted two more traits that he feels will lead to his undoing.
“I don’t think he’s terribly quick, I don’t think he’s terribly good on the ball, but he makes other people play and has real aggression, which Argentinians tend to have,” he added.

“He will get out sprinted occasionally and he will get caught. That’s my take on it.
“I can’t tell you a centre back in English football, in my time of the game, that has been successful being that size.”

He’s missing Pogba isn’t he?

Even for Souness that’s a daft comment.
