Our squad is too light, yet the object of this article can't even get on the pitch due to the numerous alternatives.

Fair enough Giroulski.

The team has several CMs but currently no DM. Could we string something together? Yes but quality is compromised. That's probably the only position (albeit one significantly important) that I'm worried about. Vieira can cover for Saka as can Nelson so, although there's a drop in quality, there is cover there.

The mood is low for some of the fan base????? After 5 win out of five? Because we didn’t buy a back-up central midfielder? I have no words for our fanbase.

People always go on about how light our squad is in comparison to the rest of the top 6.

On Wednesday Manchester City had:
Claudio Gomes, Sergio Gomez, Ben Knight, Rico Lewis, Stefan Ortega, Cole Palmer and Josh Wilson-Esbrand on the bench.

That is with the same number of injuries as us.

This is the long tail end of the damage done during
Wenger's casa Pepe days. Arsenal was a club to get sky high wages in one of the best cities in the world in a
doss environment.

As much as he deserved an Invincible documentary - a far better one would cover the last 15 years: the power struggle after Dein left with the Kroenke's eventually winning out, the Ozil and Auba sagas, the terminated contracts and dismal failures in our transfer dealings.

All this being said - I think we may be able to draw a
line under it now. And kudos needs to be given to Edu
and Arteta for setting new precedents. Almost all of our
squad players now should be "valuable'. Our wage bill is down and not distorted by outrageous sums for past it
prima donnas.

This was a crazy window. Chelsea and United have
gambled massively on outrageously expensive punts.
Liverpool have taken Melo - would we have wanted
him?! And some promoted clubs are spending more
than the established giants of European football.

Our CM options aren't that weak. Partey proving to be a lot more injury prone than expected and a lot of uncertainty about potential options (Zinchenko, Vieira) has escalated the urgency about filling the position. We needed another forward and/or a winger just as urgently.

We could really have done with Guendouzi in the team right now if Arteta wasn't so rash.

posted on 2/9/22

Well, just saying: If they tie down Saliba and Saka in the next couple of days, I will be inclined to completely forget there ever was a deadline day.

Deadline day transfers are always gambles. The
dressing room is everything in this young Arsenal
squad. I'd rather we did not gamble by overpaying for
players we haven't scouted for months. So, I guess I
trust the process.

But we will lose eventually this season and then
everyone will be all "THE TRANSFER WINDOW
STUPID" and yada yada yada..

And Arteta. Sometimes, it takes 2 parties for things to degenerate beyond repair. Arteta is a bit of a cowboy who feels he's got something to prove and overreacts in situations where he could be more prudent.

Meh. Arteta laid out his non-negotiables. He was very clear about what was acceptable and what wasn't. Guendouzi contravened at least one of them. It's not as if he didn't know. So he was punished. By all accounts, Guendouzi could have climbed down and, similarly, by all accounts, he's a difficult character. He just came across someone who wouldn't give way to that behaviour. So as good as he could have been, he is where he is because of him. Kinda simple, really.

Some of our fan base are quit pathetic. Seen some full meltdowns on Twitter, where people are writing off top 4 just because we didn’t sign Luiz, and saying Arsenal have killed the good mood around the club by not making a deadline day deal.

Of course we did need a back up in that position , but players are always going to get injured, and you can’t have 4 quality back ups for each position, which seems to be the expectation of some fans. We have options in the squad for cover, and we’ll just have to try and get by. We should play a weakened team in Europa until January, so that shouldn’t be as taxing as it’s being made out. Hopefully we get to January in decent shape and we can buy then, because from then on, that’s where lack of depth could really bite

For a club of our stature, Arsenal have about the least demanding fans in the world: a reason Wenger was allowed to parade his failures as success for donkey years until even top 4 became out of reach and his position became untenable. Always amused when people make it out like we have these unhinged, unrealistic fans. Yeah, we've flopped so hard and so long that many fans are tired of "getting by".

Arsenal fans are pathetic for wanting the club to be successful. A true fan these days is one that accepts and excuses failure

I imagine that he'll be back up for Ode/Saka while ESR is backup for Martinelli/Xhaka, but he may be expected to take more responsibility quicker than anticipated now with these injuries
