Should have retired a few years ago when he was top of the grand slams. Nadal and Novak have caught him up and overtaken him.
One of the greats for sure.

Agreed
Im a Nadal fan but Federers running forehand cross court winner, and any of his one-handed backhanders were just phenomenal.
True great. Great Pro as well
I'm a huge Nikolay Davydenko fan but even I'm wishing Federer all the best in his retirement
Federer will always be the GOAT of tennis. Guy turned Sport into art
Hope he has a happy retirement.
Brilliant player and role model.
Will miss the one handed backhands for sure
A legend of the game. A bit like Kaka in football. Was clearly the best until two super human players came along and he was eventually overshadowed. Any other era and he would have won everything
Invented a hat, was good at tennis.
What a guy.
Shame, was hoping he might do one last year so I could try and see him play in person. Phenomenal career and at his peak possibly the best ever.
Perhaps not quite as impressive as the other two in the end, but they don't become who they are without him around.
GOAT
greatest of all tennis
Considering they slowed down the balls, surfaces and completely slowed down to game to suit defensive grinders, the fact that an attacking player won 20 slams is quite an achievement.
Great career Federer, let's hope the surfaces change so we can see more attacking players. The US Open is slightly better than the slow courts of 2017-2020 so we got to see a slightly more attacking player like Alcaraz win it. Let's hope this continues.
For me he’s the best tennis player to watch of all time. Silky smooth like Zidane. I feel like his best years were up until his mid 20’s, when he was no 1 for record breaking weeks/years. Then Rafa came to town and challenged him and at the same time he was coming of his absolute peak. So for him to still be here more than a decade late is remarkable.
Rafa is probably the GOAT, but for me this guy is Mr.Tennis and is my GOAT
Dark day in Tennis having the people's champion retire. What a career he has.
Maybe in the Brazilian Ronaldo and Ronaldinho kind of category where people love him but in real technical terms they are behind Messi and Ronaldo. But he brought something unique to the game that can't be judged in wins and titles and such. Like Senna in F1

The most aesthetically pleasing player the game has seen, a great professional who raised the bar. 2 others have come along and taken that a touch further, but no doubt about Federer's influence on the game and the joy he brought to many - and I say that as someone who isn't a 'massive' Federer fan
Good chap, a good thread to come out of the closet
IMO tennis should be canceled now
what's the point?
