Finally we get Maddison central, Ndidi doing what he does and Vardy doing what he does. The result, finally a win.
Certainly not without fault though. A better team than Forest would have punished us. Mybiggest complaint is the high line and Ward’s starting position. He’s too deep and that might hurt us if we don’t fix it.
Faes looks a great player ably filling Fofana’ shows. He may not have Fofana’s talent but he’s slotted in nicely.
Thankfully a win.
Bournemouth will be a telling and massive game now in Rodgers’ future.

Agree with all of that apart from N’didi who was poor and part of the reason we got completely cut open a couple of times. He’s lost his confidence, his timing and his touch. He wasn’t anywhere near as bad as last week but he’s got to up his game and quickly
Well done Brendan, some great calls tonight. Probably the best starting lineup we have. Nndidi still out of sorts though. Good sub bringing on Daka and what a goal, no one was calling for Daka to come on, now he’s under used, 🤭. Ward had a decent game. No sign the manager had lost the dressing room. We’re not world beaters but we’ve played a lot of the top teams already this season including Brighton. Plenty of positives tonight, let’s forget the negativity and enjoy the win.

Not saying Ndidi had a great game. Just that he was much more effective playing in a position he’s comfortable in and playing a short pass.
Yeah that’s fair Mersey he was.
My other point though, I thought Ward really struggled again.
His starting position seemed at odds with our defensive line and he was really indecisive as to when to come out or not. It nearly cost us two goals.
He and Castagne seemed to have a spat after Castagne clearly asked for him to come out and gather and he didn’t. It was like it was in slow motion it took so long and you could see what was going to happen.
For me, there’s a lot of work to do to get Ward integrated with the way we play. But his decision making and commitment to it needs to improve. If you come, come and deal with the danger. Coke for a corner and command it or don’t.
Too much uncertainty is affecting the defence and that will hurt us against better teams.
Faes look like he actually covered for a lot yesterday from where I was sat, although he did get wrong side once when Ndidi left his station and the straight pass was on. Otherwise he was excellent.
The Game could have easily gone the other way, they hit the post then Madders shoots wide but it deflects in, fine margins.
Ward did look indecisive but he got the luck helped by them being awful in front of goal, it can only have helped his confidence keeping the clean sheet.
Thought Ndidi looked out of sorts, he looked 'awkward' , almost like a Non League player would, just something else strange going on in our Club under Bodgit.
KDH, Maddison and Castagne all looked excellent, Faes looked very good as well but some mistakes in there as well, reminded me a lot of Soyuncu, would like to see them two play together, although that would probably be at another Club now.
Faes and Soyuncu need someone like Evans playing next to them to enable their aggression. Playing them both together could be a disaster.
Faes could be a superb player for us as long as we can find him a good partner when Evans retires. I hope we’re planning for that player to be in this summer latest.
I was worried about the atmosphere last night. Thought it might be apathetic or even poisonous, but we were great before kick-off and then the game helped that continue. Good to see the stadium up for the derby and behind the team. Let’s hope the players and fans both respond to each other.
For me I don’t see Soyuncu and Faes as similar players at all. Faes looks far more composed, he’s a natural leader (one of the reasons we signed him) and to look as good as he did last night in only his second game with that turrd behind him in goal speaks volumes. I actually see him as the successor to Evans, I think he can organise, defend and lead - if he does that then it’s about finding a suitable partner for him.
