Agree with that kebab and remember commenting about his luck at the time.

The subs were shocking today. We needed a striker replacement for Bamford and couldn't understand the Klich sub either. The Joffy and Ayling get 8mins. Just bizarre

Its refreshing to have a player of Aylings calibre able to come off the bench. Some proper depth at RB for once. Shout out to the officials who were totally useless again today ......

I like how Marsch says we take pride in set pieces, defending them think we lost every corner, attacking we were terrible, Harrison & Aaronson stand over the ball whisper in secret code and deliver nothing from them……. as long as we continue to ‘fight’ and ‘believe’ in the process - his interviews and buzzwords are getting slightly tedious for me
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We have been poor at attacking set pieces. The two player at corner routines just isn't working, no idea what they are working on at Thorp Arch. Must have found Vio's old play book.
You remember Gianni Vio, set piece specialist who worked wonders at AC Milan, Brentford, Italy and now Spurs and actually made our set pieces worse.

Ayling is nowhere near fit enough. Got left for dead a couple of times against Villa last week and much the same this week. Maybe that's the reason for the delayed subbing of hm and Gelhardt (and I am a big fan of both) maybe neither is currently Prem ready.

Where does Stuart Dallas fit in this team when he's fit, assuming Firpo is fit by then too?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think he does Jonty. I stand to be corrected but in a fully fit squad, given the fact he is 31 and is coming back from a pretty bad injury but I think we need to steel ourselves for the possibility that he might struggle to even make the bench.

Barely mentioned on the matchday thread but Doucouré's challenge on Adams, a straight red surely, the VAR ref seemed to spend very little time considering it. Studs on his ankle then caught him with his trailing leg.

Totally agree. Don't know what was said in commentary as I watch without volume on but Adams was lucky to escape serious injury here.

Jonty thought Bamford was our best player last week as well. Not seen a journo who has scored him more than 5.
Cooper was poor today, for the second goal in paticular he went to ground leaving a huge space for Eze to run in to. I have a lot of time for Liam but he had a bit of a shocker.

White the commentators alluded to it. He also got a final warning later on for a second bookable offence. Thought the ref was OK but got it wrong with Doucouré

We've certainly had worse refs this season. Was giving them out to white shirts for next to nothing late in the game though.

IMO our old guard are no longer fit for purpose. Bamford: we’ve had one productive season out of him.
Ayling: unpredictable at the best of times, he’s run out steam.
Cooper: a talisman who’s lost his powers. Makes costly mistakes week after week.
Dallas: could have had a decent season in him but for a self-induced injury at the end of last season.
Klich: he’s a bit-part player who’s lost the ability to make an impact when subbed on.
In the case of all the above, I hate to say it but time has caught up with them and I believe that (Bamf possibly excepted) they’re now Championship players. These are the players Radz and Orta should have replaced this summer.

Interesting you thought Meslier was a shadow of himself Jonty . Hinchcliffe was also very critical of him but the Sky journo covering the game thought he was the best player. I largely agree.
In a very poor game who do you think was Player of the Match?

Bamford"

Out of a poor showing all round last week I thought for the time he was on the pitch, he was our best player yes, and yesterday, for a player out nearly for a whole year, he showed a clean pair of heels to the Palace defence requiring the most blatant of shirt pulls to hold him back, great movement to get in position for shot on goal, two other times got himself in really dangerous positions, this creates space for other players.

Bamford offered more yesterday than Rodrigo, Summerville and Gelhardt combined.

So, simple question for you, who offered more, the returning from injury Bamford, or his replacement Summerville?

Or put it this way Jonty……….

Leeds worst period of the game was 62 minutes and onwards

Bamford absolutely crucial to this side.

I'm not specifically a Bamford fan, but he performed at decent level since coming back and when you've been out injured for so long it takes a long time to regain match fitness.

'Bamford absolutely crucial to this side'.

Sad thing is we have known this for the last few seasons and not sorted out an adequate replacement / back up.

Bamford looked cooked well before half time yesterday. Having a striker who can hold the ball up and bring others into play is crucial to how the this side - that thrives on quick passes forward - plays. Problem is we don’t have a like for like replacement. So when he goes off we rejig the entire front line. We’d lost control of the midfield by then yesterday anyway so anyone up front would have been starved of service.

Bamford caused some problems for them yesterday but personally I thought he was rusty as hell and gave the ball away/fecked up some promising positions. He was both the solution and the problem

Got it in one there Milky - exactly my take on it.

Personally I think Bamford is struggling, he looked sluggish and offered little yesterday. He should have scored but did little else to earn any form of accolade.
Be it because he is not yet full match fit or a change of system or the 100 goals weighing on his mind, I don't know.
Adams, Aaaronson, Rasmus, Koch all had better games.

Agree. Bamford is probably the most important player on Leeds. But not in the condition he's been in for the last season and a half. Plus he's missing more sitters than he scores.

This was the area I feel the club did not get right in the summer. I think most fans know a fit Bamford very much has a part to play but he needed some competition and someone we could bring in to prevent us having to play him when he is half fit or when he is not firing.

I think Gnonto and Perkins will be good additions for us eventually but we really needed a proven senior striker and it is coming home to roost right now. The summer long fruitless chase of CDK didn't help and feel we could be in for a similar scenario with Gakpo in January when more realistic targets would be achievable.
