England should be beating teams like France.
Deschamps is a fraud who cannot judge a players talent, he should have been sacked for selecting Rabiot was the narrative from a few on here.

after the subs, France had serious pace and power running at the Argie backline...it was reminiscent of how the Saudi's came back at Argentina in the 2nd half of that match

however even putting Eric Dier wide right in place of Dembele would have been better.

Absolute bricker is that Dembele, has loads of talent but zero bottle

I wonder how Deschamps time as manager will be viewed in the future. A brilliant pool of talent and reached 3 finals but lost 2 of them. Also I read his and the French physio teams treatment of Benzema hasn’t been the best, could have easily stayed with the squad and been for the second group game but was pretty much told to leave.

Is Zidane now likely to take over?

I'm looking forward to the Euro 2024 now.
We yet to know who will be in charge of the French National team. Deschamps has a meeting in January to discuss and clarify his position.
But even if he still in charge, by then he will have to trust and rely on those youngsters that made the bench during this world cup. Cavaminga should have played way more than he did. Same can be said for Saliba, Coman and Muani.

The biggest impact was France going long in the last ten minutes. They bypassed the midfield, where France struggled badly against, and Thuram was winning everything in the air.

Camavinga has time on his side, but he's extremely rough around the edges. Thus far he seems to make a much bigger impact coming on as a sub in games where his side needs a boost of energy and aggression. It's been a similar story for Madrid. He hasn't, for the time being, shown the poise necessary to start on a team against which a majority of opponents are going to sit back and ask completely different questions of. Still, much rather have him than not, obvs.

I’d imagine Pogba walks (operative word) back into the France team if he’s fit. Was a huge miss for France this world cup.

He is still young and "rough" but he defo better than a not 100% Hernandez.

Thought the ref was worth a motm shout.

Coman was the sub, that made the most difference,up until then France were lookers on, Argentina(especially the left side of defence) were either knackered or thought it was already won !
It was a game that Argentina could only lose through their own stupidity ..........and they nearly did !

I watched it with eight French family members. They were philosophical about the result.

The ref was getting abuse on the live thread, but I said I thought he was having a good game, I still think so now it's over.

A very good referee in my opinion, who was he ?

posted on 19/12/22

I was only actually dragged into it after 80 minutes, but from that point on I don't think the ref was a major factor in the outcome. Think he got the big calls he had to make correct. If you have to take exception with something, then surely it's how refs are instructed to interpret the Laws of the Game, not them for doing so.

France played a very good WC. Not spectacular but they always had a plan.

Unfortunately that plan didnt work for them in the final. Deschamp had his tactics wrong and the first subs were wrong, key players werent up the races I think they also were a bit unlucky with the refs decision who wasnt the best allthough the most praised him for his performance.

They got the runners up medal. Nothing to be ashamed of. Well done to France

Ref was good. Made a rod for his back though by giving a soft penalty to Argentina early on and then having to give one back to Fr for balance... VAR should have helped in out better.ie made him look at it again pitchside.... But a good Polish ref he was. Ex player apparently. Could start a thing that with ex players coming into refereeing. Lets hope so.

Regardless of how poor they played, and the dodgy decisions, it’s an impressive achievement from France to get to penalties in the world cup final given all the players they had missing.

yup the contact was almost no contact, so on the basis of the contact being no contact, then you have a point

France have so much strength in depth its scary. Players who can either play for France, or top African sides, queueing up. Can see them dominating international tournament football for the next generation at least.
