I still think that even if the record was 283 Kane will reach that target, unless he moves abroad for a long period.

I expect him to get 20 or so league goals for the next 3 seasons, which will already put him close. And even then he'll be younger than Shearer was when he retired. I imagine Kane playing for longer than Shearer did too.

Pure goalscoring wise there isn't much between the two. Maybe Shearer was a bit better from longer range and of course was good at free kicks, where Kane is positively rubbish at them.

Kane will most likely stay with Spurs until near the end of his career and then go to PSG or Juve to get a title win. His chance to join City has gone and it's unlikely he'd go to another English club imo

One thing that rarely gets mentioned about Shearer, even by the man himself, is that his top flight record is 283. He scored 23 goals in the First Division before it became the PL, but only his 260 PL goals ever get referenced. Basically, a change in branding wiped 23 goals off of Shearers ledger as far as the world is concerned!

Oh shiiiiit, yeah. Totally forgot about that. Why the hell doesn't he ever mention it when it comes up on MOTD Top 10? Lineker and Micah are always digging him out for Kane getting closer to that record but he never adds most of his Southampton goals. I suppose he's aware of not coming across like a total dikhead.

In terms of pure goalscoring ability there's really nothing in it. In fact, if you take into account accumulative injuries, Shearer probably would be further ahead than Kane than he already is. He had 3 years out with injury. Kane has had maybe three ankle rolls which have kept him maybe 9 months total roughly? Shearer was banging them from about the age of 19 onwards, and became amazing by about 21. Kane only got in the Spurs first team at about 21 and only became prolific by about 23-24 so I reckon were it not for injuries, Shearer would have been on over 300 prem goals and out of sight to be honest.

Kane’s biggest injury was the torn hammy that required surgery in Jose’s first season, happened in late Feb I think and would’ve kept him out for the season, but then covid hit and the season got stopped and overran, meaning he was able to play games he wouldn’t have played otherwise. The ankle rolls were an issue because he was always rushed back and re-injured it as we never, and still don’t, have any sort of cover for him.

Oppo fans talk about Kane as if he’s injury prone, the reality is he’s 29 and has had about 6 months in total out due to injury throughout his career, and hasn’t had an injury now for 3 years. He plays every minute of every game in every comp for spurs, every game for England, add in England U21’s he has played a massive amount of football and is the total opposite of injury prone.

I think a lot of that is Kane knowing his own body and limitations. He doesn't really get involved in the tackle as much as he used to or go on lung bursting runs. If he sees the potential for injury by diving in or leaving a standing foot exposed to a tackle, he backs off. It's a combination of him not being as injury prone as people think and his ability to know his own limitations.

You think? He's got one more year with us at best if we don't sell him in the summer.

My guess is that he wants Shearer's record so he won't go abroad just yet but, if United's form begins to gather real pace between now and next season, they could potentially go for him if they look like offering him a greater chance of trophies. I can't see where else he'd go. The only other club desperate for a striker are Chelsea and that would just be unthinkable. He not get a statue if he does that, even though Greaves played for both clubs. It's worse going from Spurs to Chelsea.

It's United or abroad really. That's his only two options. Newcastle are still a long way off it for me. They're good but they're not gonna be properly challenging for a good 3-4 years.

I don't think he'll leave unless he's going to a club who are almost guaranteed to win trophies. If you aren't going to win anything then the next best thing is being a club legend
