You can see tha logic to your vast spending. Last season you probably turned a profit as you had cup runs, UCL and sold players (although that would be offset against whatever the impact of the sanctions were), so that will give you head room to spend more this season.
I also think there is an element of getting the spending done before the new FFP rules kick in which limits wages and transfer to 70% of revenue (although it starts at 90% next year reducing to 70% by 25/26). Your spending is youth based so should, in theory see reduced need for such big spending after this splurge.
The diificultly you will have, at least in the short term is dealing with a vast squad and wage bill. Getting rid of some of those players will not be easy and some like Lukaku, will probably see big losses, and many of them will go for free which means they contribute little to your player trading figures which, historically, have been important in Chelsea avoiding financial losses.
The other risk is that you are taking a slightly different high risk approach, offering ridiculously long contracts. You are putting a lot of your eggs in one basket and it doesnt allow much agility if it doesnt work that well, if players dont succeed or a new manager comes in. Imagine if United had taken Sancho on a 7 or 8 year deal, or Antony. There's little certainty in football that young players do what is hoped of them, as Chelsea have seen with Werner and others.
Will be interesting to see how this different approach plays out.
You've signed 15 players since this past summer?
Facking hell
Chelsea also use it to generate income.
buy these players at young ages on long contracts. laon them out and hvae their wage covered and also gain a small fee.
Over 4/5 years those small fees add up. during this time if any club fancies coming in nd buying the player its normally at a profit.
So they get these guys in get other teams to cover their wages and earn small amounts off them in the hope that one or two of them also then go for good profits.
I dont think half the players they sign they have any real aspirations of them making it in the first team (chelseas view not the players), If they do , then bonus.
You’ve bought about 5 wingers, 5 centre backs and no CF other than one you already want to get rid of. Why did you sign Felix on loan to then go and buy Mudryk and Madueke? Why have you not signed a centre forward you actually want? It’s scattergun in the extreme and most of your signings seem to be completed to stop other clubs signing them.
You’re an absolute joke of a club.
Brilliant article. Spot on with everything you say.
People see these huge figures and headlines but the money is spread out over years. The club, despite having a small stadium compared to competitors are still 8th in the world in revenue generated. i'm sure the higher ups know what they are doing.

di maria, falcao, fred, antony, sancho, dan james, wan bissaka, harry maguire, varane, martinez, van de beek...massive outlay and only 1 or 2 have potentially worked (varane, martinez).
Those who live in glass houses...
I think what it boils down to is that there are a lot of very jealous rival fans out there right now. We're doing the proper revamp of this squad that's been needed for years and we certainly haven't finished yet. We have owners putting their money where their mouth is, which is fantastic.
The Tottingham fans and others that were celebrating last year because they thought we were going into administration must be sick to their stomachs looking at this
I bathe in their tears
oh yeah I forgot the administration talks
People were loving it despite the fact we were so unfairly punished last year
Lets not ignore the fact that there are many Chelsea supporters who feel the same as some rivals
didn't you bid like 40m for lavia after he'd just joined Southampton in the same window and only had like 3 senior starts
I think it boils down to people jumping to conclusions or guessing early on about which direction if any a project is moving. If i challenges what theyve come to know then ooh aahh you dont know what youre doing!!
Ya know, in spite of these owners having already run a VERY successful sports franchise and ya know, making billions from it. Oh, and earning the trust of the community who are VERY suspicious and critical of the actions taken around it.
…or rivals grasping at straws/twitter rumours

Same window ? Sounds like some fresh off the press BS.
A net spend on the verge of 500m this season.
May as well scrap FFP if this isn't punished or even worse isn't a breach.

Wouldn’t put it past us
I mean, Boehly is playing football manager & he is being a bit mental. You make good points but lets call a spade a spade
Though I do agree what we're doing atm is what every fan at one point has always demanded their clubs do, even though it's an emotional reaction, in ripping up a broken formula & starting again - and I do appreciate the motivation being for us to be better. Spurs fans could only dream of ENIC caring this much about the team for example.

On the serious side - Gallagher needs to come off that list!

Honestly couldn’t be less jealous if I tried. I hope Chelsea buy another 5 players before the window closes. The way Potter refused to tell journos what type of player Madueke is shows how involved he is in this ‘revamp’

Because at that time he wasn't signed and he refused, as most managers do to talk about players of other teams.
You're clutching at straws.

You can laugh at our spend as much as we laugh at your lack of European trophies.
Your claims on Potter though ate clutching at straws. A bit like the many arsenal fans that claimed Arteta wasn't up to the job on and off over the last three years, of which I'm sure you'll declare you weren't one of.
