What CB shall we go out and sign? Who's available or do we just buy one and cross our fingers.

Unless these players are available and clubs willing to sell then it becomes almost impossible unless we blow our budgets out of the water, which then compromises other deals.

Whoever we want at CB, clearly is not available right now, but the obsession that CBs are the only issue is not backed up by facts or observations of where our goals are conceded.

vs Arsenal. 2 goals. Culpable were Sessegnon and Lloris for the first one and for the 2nd, whoever (cannot remember, but may have been Kane) coughed up possession in our half allowing them to run at our back line. Again i think Lloris could have done better.

vs Man City, Goal 1 was a scramble from a cross from the LB position (Perisic). Goal 2 was poor tracking by Perisic who failed to stop Mahrez, Goal 3 Perisic failing to stop the ball and committing himself, followed by Lloris error. Goal 3 - clanger by Lenglet.

Villa before that, Lloris spills one to their attacker. 2nd, Kane loses the ball in our half, Bissouma, ball watching, fails to track the runner who scores.

So YES, we all agree that better CBs will improve us and are needed but it is not the be all and end all of our problems. Last 6 goals conceded have largely come from the LB position & Lloris, with one glaring CB error.

This need should not prevent us from targeting other places in the squad where we can improve our options, and Danjuma and Porro if they come will also do this. Zaniolo would also add depth and more creativity, which is needed, although i can understand the reticence at over paying for a guy with an injury history and a less than glamourous set of stats.

We need to get the right people in, not just anyone and not at any cost. This is a process and we are far from the finished article.

I am hoping the club recognise the need for CBs. Hopefully the rationale or reasoning for not signing one, is there are quite a few across Europe out of contract in the summer or entering the last year of their contract.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s frustrating though when you see Chelsea sign Badiashile for a fair fee in this window, but Spurs can’t find value - would Hincapie really be too expensive? Bastoni has sat on the bench for Inter a lot this season - a big enough offer would surely convince them
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Badiashile would have made sense. We need big unit defenders that like a scrap. Enough of all these failed CMs and FBs playing as centre backs

I love the attempt to hire people with fancy titles like Director of Football, but nothing changes so what's the point
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah it’s absurd, and worse we hired a faaaacking crook this time - Spursy
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In a way I'm enjoying the crookery. I want other clubs to hate us. No more nice guys. The Danjuma hijack would be funny but I'm all for it.

Romano now saying spurs have agreed personal terms with Porro. With a contract until 2028.

Now just to agree a fee with Sporting.

i agree its frustrating but the truth is that we know nothing about our budgets.

I will be very interested to see what our next financial accounts look like, because we were given that £150m investment but that seems to be all we have spent, I would have though it would have been on top of whatever else we usually spend (net £60-70m a season).

I believe the caution comes from some of the players on our books who are not wanted. Really we want rid of Sanchez, Reguillon, NDombele, LoCelso, one of the RWBs. If we look to rebuild the suqad without these guys out of the door it leaves us with a big problems and a financial drain...and they between them cost £170m+

I dont think Levy is too adverse at spending big money on the right player, but he just cannot cope with overloading us with expensive but redundant assets that will take millions out of the club and contribute zero. The Conte contract situation only compounds any sense of unease about being left with players who are surplus to requirements. It is careful financial management, which i dont think we can be too critical of...No one "does a Leeds" anymore but as Everton or Leicester have shown, poor spending catches up with you and they are paralysed in the transfer market.

The criticism should be levelled at some of these buys and the sums paid/wages given, that now make them so hard to shift having flopped. These signings show the dangers of not properly thought through and researched deals. That said, few of us were critical of any of these signings, we were delighted in most cases!

Swap Zaniolo for Raya and that would be a very good window

Reports coming out now we are meeting the Porro release clause. Exactly the type of player we need for a position that needs addressing!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Will transform the aesthetic of this side big time - it’s an absolutely key position in a Conte system and we’re getting one of the best at it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah definitely strike. He seems to be a big character as well! Should improve the balance of the side massively.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Was hugely impressed with him in the CL games, he is like Trippier with pace.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’ll be great to have someone that is decent at FKs and corners.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We’ve got Kane for free kicks

Problem is..if we buy Raya I don't see Conte dropping Lloris. Raya might get FA Cup and that's it

For now maybe but it won’t be too long until he wins a first team spot. Plus it means he’s secure as I’m sure a lot of interest in the summer, especially considering the fee

I’m hoping our little hijack results in Everton not dealing with us for Pickford in the summer, would def prefer Raya
