A 17-3-2 run in all comps is absolutely flying, as far as I’m concerned.

That’s a magnificent record, and the performances have largely justified the results.

More work to do in training, with fitness, in squad-building, of course.

But I don’t think anyone could have expected United to put such a run together at any point this season.

We're not flying but....

We're 10pts clear of Chelsea and Liverpool with our manager only 6 months into his job

We've got one foot and 3 toes in a cup final.

We're still in FA cup and Europa League.

I qualify that as flying for a manager in his first season. Klopp and Arteta finished 8th in theirs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Completely different circumstances, this was Arteta first managerial job EVER, we were chitter than Man U at that time, had sooooo much deadwood to get rid of and spent less £££
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh I get that but I still think Erik is doing a great job all things considered.

We've also played top 2 home and away already too. Nobody else has. Another thing in our favour.

^ (That’s the record to date since the drubbing by City, btw.)

Yeah I don’t think that either, and I wouldn’t even say a lot of the signings have been really grate players, but I think there’s a lot of value in how he’s aligning with Arteta’s management. Arsenal, after years of poor management, look like they are well run now with these two working in tandem.

It’s early days, of course. Things could blow up and Arsenal have struggles again on and off the pitch, but from outside looking in it does look like Arsenal finally know what they are doing again. Not sure that’s been the case since the late 00’s.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We've also used our academy excellently since COVID hit. Been meaning to make an article about it lately, but not had the time.

Arteta won the FA cup in his first half-season.

Ten hag has a far, far better squad of players at his disposal than arteta did. Plus he had the liberty of spending about 200m in his first window.

Klopp's first full season he finished 4th.

With Rodgers team he got us into the league and Europa cup final. No £250m spent. Just great management.

Yeah the academy’s played an important part of the strategy.

The Arsenal academy appears to improved a lot in recent years. It’s not just the ones that have broken through into the first team, I believe they are much better represented in the England youth teams than they were for many years.

I’m guessing there was a bit of an overhaul and a more aggressive strategy to compete with Chelsea for London’s finest?

7 out of a 9 month season don’t count as Klopp’s first season to scousers, apparently. Unless they want to point to them losing two finals under him, of course.

When Klopp took over they were well adrift of the league leaders to be fair as this table shows:

city and arsenal are not reliant on 1 player to score (as ridiculous as that sounds with haalands record). I reckon alvarez would probably have half the goals haaland has scored if he played every game.

utd and spurs are more reliant on one man.

Chelsea have no one
----------------------------------------------------------------------
man city can win a league without a striker !!

Yeah but I think most would have expected them to still finish 21 points behind City. Maybe not Leicester City.

Utd are flying this season? That's a bit of a stretch to me.
Rashford is in great form but if those goals dry up then utd could struggle for top 4 in a season they should easily qualify for it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How's your 500m investment this season working out for youse?

Not sure yet. Lots of players not even arrived or played yet. Lots of injuries to the squad. should hopefully improve once players are back from injury and start getting minutes under their belts.

Whats that got to do with utd?

Arsenal have spent like £700 million in just three seasons. So why the big surprise?

as shown by utd and chelsea, money doesn't guarantee a thing. Many of Arsenal's signings were scoffed at.

Although I did believe at the time the signings of jesus and zinchenko were master strokes.

Yeah I know. Just pointing out how stupid it is to disregard seven months of football under Klopp in a season that facking Leicester finished 21 points ahead of them.

Given the position they were last season, and the level of work required to even get them to a mid-table club, I think Newcastle have had the better up turn in fortune, from the three clubs. Rock solid defence with Eddie Howe forming a well drilled squad.

Next is probably Man Utd, given the mess they were in last season with Rangnick and the level of clear out required (they still need a some work on this but so far so good, for them). I think top 4 is the ultimate goal, with a trophy to top it off. But even just a top 4 finish is good season for Man Utd.

Arsenal were unlucky last season to miss out on top 4, but you could see the seed of a well put together squad by Arteta. Just a few additions were required to seriously compete for top 4, and I think they've achieved just that. Obviously being top of the league is a pleasant surprise, but I think we're still 1/2 CL transfer windows from putting a good title challenging squad together.

I’m not sure about this, especially with regard to United. We didn’t have to do too much to get back amongst the top four.

I get what you mean about Newcastle, but it’s actually quite easy to shoot up the table with big, smart investment and good coaching. We’ve seen it plenty from other clubs over recent years.

Arsenal’s is probably the most impressive because of the level they’ve managed to get. This isn’t just a jump from 5th to challenging for 1st where there’s not a large gap. It’s 5th to 1st where they’ve managed to build up a pretty big gap over Pep’s City.

50 points from 19 games is ridiculous, and only bettered by Liverpool when they got 99 points and City when they got 100.

The level of that jump is probably the biggest of the three from where they ended last season.
