im 6ft and about 13 and a half stone and feel too heavy atm aided by rupturing the ligaments in my left leg playing football. God knows what 18 feels like. Good luck

I genuinely can’t understand how people let themselves get to that stage.

I’m currently 13, 5”11, workout 5 days a week and I feel pretty overweight after a drink and food orientated Christmas.

Exercise is my release, I cant live without it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep same, however due to the injury ive put on more weight then I wish, and now that makes everything harder (running, squatting etc) And starting to pick up injuries elsewhere now.

Good to hear, mate.

There's more to it than just losing weight.

From a structural engineering standpoint you still need to increase and maintain bone density, muscle tissue, and connective tissue thickness. As well as a healthy heart and circulatory system. Especially in the modern age where we have less manual labour coupled with a relatively high life expectancy.

Full body resistance training still remains the most effective option that ticks all the boxes.

Everything from a brisk swim every now and then, to 25-minute home workouts with bottles of water for weights, to full gym sessions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That’s all true and perhaps I’d be a better version of myself with those things but I found by walking fairly speedily and with purpose I’ve come out the other end with a pretty solid body and exactly how I hoped I’d look. I’m not ripped by any stretch of the imagination but perhaps my own body type lenses itself to getting solid with constant walking and the resistance that came from using the weight as actual weights.

failing all this just do a cycle of clenbuterol.

or just go visit Mexico and have some lunch !

I used to spend a lot of time keeping fit in my 20s and 30s, but in my 40s I generally accept that fitting in my clothes and not being out of breath from walking is about as good as it gets. Or, more accurately, the very best I could look/feel after 40 wouldn't be worth the effort required to get there. Depressing but true.

Good on you Robb. Whenever I've got into a habit of not exercising enough / not eating as healthily as I want (without becoming seriously overweight fortunately), it has always felt quite a struggle to break that pattern. I can imagine it must have been very hard at the start to set out in a new direction and counteract the signals coming from the brain to keep doing what you were doing. And it must be hugely satisfying to feel the momentum of exercise and associated weight loss kicking in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks. Really the hardest thing was just starting it. I’m incredibly strong willed when I get going at anything but I’m a master procrastinator. I was the type of guy who’d say he’d start on the 15th but when it got to it I’d change it to the first as that date sounded better. Then I’d say ‘just one more day then I’ll start tomorrow’ but ‘tomorrow’ was every day.

I watched one cheesy American woman on YouTube who explained that binging was an addiction not unlike drugs or alcohol etc and that helped humanise the problem. She also suggested the language you tell yourself is important. Like for example say un ‘that’s something I used to do’ when faced with temptation.

Anyway, once I actually did commit it was weirdly easy to do. But I guess with any addiction the hardest part really is that day 1 moment.

Question, as most of your walking is uphill, when are you coming back down?

No! I would have probably been thinner if I had. Plus for 5 years I ran a vaping company so have seen the stupidity of smokers and what a waste of money that is.

You should start whilst you’re trying to lose weight.

At 18 stone I'd recommend smoking crack.

Sure it's a bit moreish but the weight will fly off and there are no documented cancer risks.

If you can get to ther stage of enjoying walking, that's the best. I'm old but enjoy it as much as ever. If there is the odd day I cannot I feel, I don't know, not good anyway, I don't have a word for it.

He’s in Australia, I think meth would be a more suitable choice.

Really is very good Robb, kudos.

When I was nursing I had a 42 stone guy come in to GP admissions. Been lying on the floor for three days cos he was so embarrassed. The fire service had to knock a wall down in the end to get him out.

Poor fella didn't make it but it shows the slippery slope.

I'm 15 n half stone or was last time I checked but I am 6ft 5 so I can carry it well.

Ideally I'd like to be about half a stone to a stone lighter but I don't look overweight so it's not something I have to do.

Cheers. 42 stone is mental. I often used to watch those channel 5 documentaries and wondered just how they afforded all that food but I guess if you’re stuck inside all day what else are you gonna spend your money on

Only when some cvnt sets him on fire.

Well done, mate. Badly need to do the same. Fook knows what I'd be like if it wasn't for the dog getting me out. Lost a fair bit 2H last year moving house but went on an AI hol over NY and put it all back on in a week.

When I stopped playing hockey I kept eating the high carb diet needed to play.
Ballooned to 230 lbs. I'm only 5'10" so I felt it on my joints. I just reduced portions a bit and cut out ice cream completely. With weekend golf and normal amount of walking I'm down to 180. That ice cream is a killer.

I have sympathy for people who have a GENUINE medical condition that leads them to being overweight. I have no sympathy for people who are over-weight through over-eating or lack of exercise.
I have been a smoker for 49 years from a time when it was socially acceptable. I accept any consequences of that as it has been my choice.
It seems strange that the medical profession consider smoking, which is now strictly controlled in public, to be worse than fat slobs pigging-out in franchise pubs.
Instead of encouraging such people to take a walk sometimes, they provide them with mobility scooters to become a menace on the pavements to pedestrians.
I will finish with what is one of my favourite expressions from an internet article I saw many years ago.
It's enough to make a cat laugh!
