IMO one of the most overated bands of all time !!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the most innovative. Superb band
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In your opinion.
I find them very boring and it just doesnt click with me.
my music tastes are on a very different spectrum however.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’m not a huge fan of theirs, but appreciate what they’ve done for music. How many bands have 6/8 or 9/8 signatures in songs? They are one of the best and very innovative, for example I’d take them ant day over something like the jam (quite one dimensional imo). Radiohead can be hit and miss, but they always innovate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep; they’ve been an incredibly important band really.
Not at all my cup of tea, but creatively they’ve been hugely innovative and influential.

I'm always gobsmacked when I hear, as I do often, people saying that Radiohead are "overrated". For me, they have the greatest claim of any band to be the best of all time; yet I rarely, if ever, see them ranked alongside, say, the Beatles. They're more likely to be compared with the likes of Coldplay.
Street Spirit, Paranoid Android, Subterranean Homesick Alien, Exit Music, Let Down, Karma Police, Lucky, The Tourist, Everything In Its Right Place, There There... that's ten songs right off the top of my head that are probably just beyond any other group I can think of in terms of complexity, imagination and sheer musicianship. Yet, after a couple of listens, all these songs feel accessible and incredibly beautiful. They are absolute geniuses for me.

tbf I coudl name more coldplay songs than Radiohead.
to put them in the sorta Beatles / Queen grouping is way overating them IMO. two bands that everyone I have spoken to could rhyme of 5-10 songs easy at least.
Iv heard of Street Spirit, Paranoid Android, Karma Police, Creep. Of which before I read your list I would have said Creep and Karma Police.
I think the majority of people would say creep of the top of their head and may get a couple more.
Im a big music guy , i listen to radio and spotify a lot (almost all day in work) granted I like heavier rock and metal but have been exposed to Radio head countless times and I have friends who are fans. And I would struggle to name more than 4 songs of theirs let alone what joe blogg in the street who isnt that into music could name, joe bloggs could name beatles and Queen stuff pretty easily (for the record im not much of a beatles fan at all.)
I didn't actually list Creep. It would be most band's greatest song but it's not in Radiohead's top 20 or 30 for me.
The fact that you can name so many Queen, Coldplay and Beatles songs and so few Radiohead ones is kind of my point. They don't get the recognition they deserve and I don't think that's even a controversial view; it's objectively the case.
I'm the biggest fan of The Bends and OK Computer but I still struggle to get into a lot of their stuff since due to being so experimental. I do respect that they are trying to be innovative though. They're like the opposite of Coldplay whose early work I love too, only Radiohead got more experimental and Coldplay got more commercial.
Radiohead have never set out to be mainstream which is why they're not instantly recognizable to everyone.
Good example was the last episode of Peaky Blinders, they actually debuted a tune (under the name of Smile) during the show without any publicity beforehand.
The boring/depressing tag was also pinned on the Smiths.
You know anyone who uses those adjectives has only skimmed the surface with these bands.

there is a reason behind it however and its quite clear and obvious they are not as good and / or not as liked.
if they wrote more songs that more people liked then they could be mentioned with the greats, but they cant.
besides they dont hold a candle to Metallica !!
I v much enjoy there more commetcial albumbs (Bends, Computer, Rainbows, Pool) butt not there x-perrymentlre stuff as find that not particularly innovative or good

Smile is actually a side project
Radiohead were actually pretty refreshing and definitely a big influence on me in the late 90s/early 2000’s. Refreshing for the trash out on the radio at the time. However over the years I’ve realized they’re an incredible mainstream band but an extremely average band of you include indie acts who are more creative and pure in their sounds.
Comparing Radiohead to Coldplay is r*tarded

Did anyone have a go on the interactive Radiohead exhibition on PC/Mac/PS5?
I thought it was absolutely amazing. Really got the spirit of the two albums (Kid A and Amnesiac).

the bands that dont make it tend to be far more distinct and obvious in the style the do.
the ones that make it tend to be the most commercial versions of these bands and are often labelled as sell outs (normally wrongly and the vast majority of bands would sell out if they had a chance).

I can use Metallica as an example of this.
they are a metal band, were a thrash band.
They are defo one of the most commercial bands of their genre. As a thrash band others played faster and heavier than them and tended to stay "truer" to the genre. But metallicas was a bit more generic and palatable to average Joe.

agree just putting it out there as its common thrown at bands in the genre I listen to.
but even if they dont sell out ,,,, not many bands who havent made it would tell Sony no we wont change our sound or image a bit in order to secure that million pound record deal.

In fact the only guy in the band who is as competent as he was 10 yrs ago is Trujillo!

----------------------------------------------------------------------
there is a reason behind it however and its quite clear and obvious they are not as good and / or not as liked.
if they wrote more songs that more people liked then they could be mentioned with the greats, but they cant.
besides they dont hold a candle to Metallica !!

Radiohead have never set out to be mainstream which is why they're not instantly recognizable to everyone.
Good example was the last episode of Peaky Blinders, they actually debuted a tune (under the name of Smile) during the show without any publicity beforehand.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Smile is actually a side project

I think its actually most bands DO sell out. Regardless of them making it or not. “This sound is big right now. Alright, that’s what kind of band we are now”

Lars is a great drummer .... not in the technical sense but his fills and feel for what fits best in the sounds is excellent. Lars' problem is that he plays drums in a genre known for having some of the best technical drummers in the industry.

anymore being the word, i dont mark a guy down as a musician cos he is too old do what he once was able to ..... james cant down pick the same way does that mean he was a poor musician his voice is almost done also. that doesnt mean I think of him as a $hit lead singer or guitarist.
In fact the only guy in the band who is as competent as he was 10 yrs ago is Trujillo!
