Slap Shot has to be my favourite, and I don't even like Ice Hockey. Rocky and Mean Machine in there aswell.

All these Van Damme movies and no one is mentioning 3 of his best

- No Retreat, No Surrender. A rare bad guy role for him and one of the best feel good movies of the 80s

- Hard Target. That leg sweep on the car bonnet. Iconic. And John Woo directing Van Damme? Who woulda thunk it?

- and finally .. Time Cop. Imo his best movie.

Universal Soldier is my fav Van Damme movie.
Timecop nice shout.
I’ve never watch No Retreat Surrender thingy...

Because those three aren’t close to Bloodsport or Kickboxer.

What can I say, I like Guns and shiiit blowing up... rather than a slo-Mo of Van Dammes face contorting while he’s doing the splits, screaming ‘My Brother!!’

Timecop was better than I thought tbh.

But there's no doubt Kickboxer and Bloodsport are his best films.

Still listen to the bloodsport song in the gym. KUMITE KUMITE KUMITE KUMITE!

Well before anyone loses their minds, I was more of a Seagal fan. Cos his style I thought I could do that... and I run better than him.
Obviously I was conned, cos indeed Van Damme is a legend, and he came up against some tough competition at the time.

That’s actually very much fake news. Van Damme was a legitimate champion kick-boxer.

A few years ago Stallone did this hugely honest Q&A session with aintitcool news and told this great story about how in the 90s all the action stars used to pretty much attend a lot of the same parties. One night in Miami if I remember correctly Seagal was boasting that he could take Van Damme and when Van Damme turned up a bit later he was told this and kicked off (no pun intended) and tried to find Seagal who by all accounts had driven off and Van Damme - according to Stallone - spent all night trying to find him to smash his face in.

think the song is called fight to survive.

I think the best song in that film is "on my own" as he reflects on having to fight chong li after jackson is in hospital.

The montage is flawless, seeing Chong Li in the glass on the bus gave me chills.

Id put Bloodsport in my top 5 films of all time.

Must have watched it at well over 50 times

Again... I was apart of that crowd that also believed Seagal could whoop on Van Damme.
A few sessions of therapy later, I’m all good now...

I’m a freak and I like the Kick-boxer sequels with Sasha Mitchell. But if we’re talking martial arts (American) movies then the Perfect Weapon with Jeff Speakman is the real GOAT. That guy was a machine.

Jeff bloody Speakman! Eric Roberts would smash his face in. What about Donnie Yen

Van Damme was a gymnast who also did some karate and kick boxing. there is no official tournament info on him competing but he was trained.

Segal at his peak was pretty legit man, he wsa the first westerner to be granted permission to teach in Japan im sure? he wouldnt have gotten permission if he wasnt legit.

plus he was a big dude is he not 6'5 or something?

He was a genuine Aikido master.

then he became a fat mess, who still to this day hasnt mastered the art of shouting or raising his voice in anyway
