We had a good run.
Thing is, who is going Taipai for it all?
It'll make very little difference Formosa of us.

NATO and the EU have little appetite for ending the war in Ukraine so there's no chance that China invading Taiwan will affect Europe in any way apart from a shortage of cheap electrical goods.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Taiwan has the monopoly on semi conductors don’t they? If that market came under the control of the Chinese it would be very very bad news for the west
The buses in the UK don't have full-time conductors or even part-time semi-conductors any more. If we need micro-chips we can by them at Tesco - a couple of minutes in the microwave and it's butty time. We'll be OK here.

I think Japan is now #1, the UK, the US and Germany are all in the top 10.
Have the RWNJs decided yet if this is all because Biden and the US want war between China and Taiwan, or because China is taking advantage of Biden's 'weak leadership'?
As ever, they seem very confused on Twitter.
I’m Taiwanese so I know what I’m talking about
We do have a monopoly on semiconductors (see TSMC that company is called protector of the nation for a reason)
Yes other countries do make these chips but TSMC are by a country mile the best at it. The smaller the chip the better.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) recorded a market share of 58.5 percent in the global semiconductor foundry market, while Samsung occupied 15.8 percent of the market.
Read somewhere before that the 3 nanometer chip, smallest and newest, TSMC has like 90% market share
And no, China can’t send foot soldiers fast enough to take us, there’s ocean down the middle that you can’t swim across
Please don’t say boats, they are ridiculously simple to sink. Same with choppers so easy to down

That's what I said earlier....
China is not interested in that piece of land or people if it's not for TSMC. China will not attack Taiwan and destroy TSMC and in return for deadly sanctions like Russia have. Then, people revolt in the mainland then CCP will be doomed. It's a win-win for USA.
What China is doing is blocking the shipments and causing chaos in the chip industry like russian conflict is causing world wide food poverty. It's a cool game

Oh they really are. I work with plenty of Chinese people and they tell me it’s a national shame to see Taiwan off doing its own thing and there is a collective obsession from the powers that be in China to get it back in Chinese hands. Xi Jinping is especially obsessed with taking it back and every indication is that he’s planning to do so within the next few years.
In my humble opinion a lot of the division in the west over the past few years has been orchestrated by China and Russia in order to create a weaker US and one that has less appetite to get involved with their own plans (Taiwan and Ukraine).

Xi is not stupid
He’s treating us like a foreign country anyway despite telling the world we are not. Trade? The same. Biliteral agreements? As above.
Tsai Ing wen met with the new US speaker McCarthy and you know what Xi did? Sent an aircraft carrier past Taiwan. Didn’t bother dropping missiles like last time because he didn’t want to affect the presidential election in 7 months time
The power of TSMC is that they’ve got the US and EU on their knees begging them to set up factories in their respective areas
Neither can the world do without Foxconn
Look them up, they make about 70% of the worlds iPhones and they probably made the PlayStation in your home too

They don’t even need to invade. They can impose a naval blockade and starve Taiwan into surrender. That’s when you’d expect the US to step in.

All things considered they'd never try that because they'd know before hand that it would never work to achieve what they want. Furthermore it would alienate them and would give the world an excuse to recognize Taiwan more than they do now. Taiwan would end up in a better position and even allowed to enter the world cup and Olympics etc.
The only thing that's gonna happen is China will eventually find an honourable way to leave Taiwan alone without embarrassing themselves or hurting their pride. Taiwan is gone and deep down they know it.
Oh they know it alright, it was never theirs in the first place
The republic of China constitution says we are the government that represents mainland and Taiwan
People’s republic of China just don’t like it that we’re holed up on this island taking all the gold on the way there
With all their hot air, they recognize that Taiwan has their own leadership election and have dialogues with the elected ‘government’. Pro or anti China both the CCP still talk to both parties
Most of it is just posturing. They recognize Taiwan in many aspects but kick up a fuss over other aspects. A bit ridiculous really.
