Upgrades to the first 11 for next year

Definately not Martinelli he's a star in the making. I don't think you will find a player who can play the inverted role like Zinchenko does so if Arteta persists with that he will be locked in. We don't need to find a forward to replace Jesus we need someone who can push him. We need to start looking at revamping the midfield if Xhaka is happy with a reduced role I would keep him.

Martinelli

No way is Arteta going to "upgrade" Jesus and Zinchenko, they were bought specifically to fit Arteta's ideals.

I'll let you have Xhaka though.

He’s a star in the making but yet has so much to improve on. You said it yourself by admitting he’s not quite there. I like the mad but he’s a few years away from being a star.

If we keep the likes of Zinchenko and Jesus in the first 11 nothing much will change. It’s not like Jesus is learning his trade and will add goals to his games. He’s been round long enough and he’s never been a goal scorer.

Zinchenko just can’t defend. You could argue some of our dropped points are as a result of his defending. I don’t care if he can play as an inverted LB . He’s not good defensively so find another that can do both

You could spin it the other way around and say we are where we are partly because of the way we have been able to control the midfield with the extra body in the middle. Arteta has obviously accepted the cons to play Zinchenko there. Just look at our record away that's part of the season why we have been so good we are able to dictate the play. Up until recently our defensive record away from home was excellent. The home form for defence is an issue which Arteta will have to look at though in the summer. Just to say find someone who can do both it doesn't work like that just look at how Tierney has played trying to do that role he's looked incredibly uncomfortable.

It's the alternative option players that we need, not necessarily the first 11 but capable of being in it :

We need a better 4th centre back than Holding.

We need a replacement if Tierney leaves.

We need a defensive midfielder, i.e. a proper alternative to Partey (generally I see Jorginho as an alternative to Xhaka).

We need a better backup to Odegaard than Fabio Vieira.

We need a better alternative to Jesus than Nketiah.

That's it as far as I am concerned.

I agree Martinelli can be frustrating but he has stepped up for us a lot more than Saka and jesus of late

His ceiling is bigger than both

To be fair to Saka he's literally played every game possible all season plus the world cup. Martinelli has had some time out of the team, didn't really play much at the world Cup so he's going to look fresher.

I agree but saka form has dropped considerably at the time when we needed him most.

On the other hand, Martinelli has really stepped up

Would you guys sell Partey if it meant we got both Rice and Caicedo??

Of course. Is this a question? Never happening though.

Rice is obviously a serious target, but West Ham's greed makes it unrealizable.

I am be one of those who believe we need an upgrade on Jesus. Or to the very least, a player able to compete with him for the starting spot.
Game by game, he makes me realise why he was never a starter for City.
Thanks god we have other players who can score goals.

The first XI hardly needs upgrading to thay degree. It's shown this season that it's probably good enough to win the league. However, it's never a bad idea to upgrade on any player if you can but I don't think I'd start with the 4 you have mentioned.

The reality is we need to upgrade the players behind the XI but if any of those players end up being better than what we already have then great.

Well said Emile, I personally feel like this was one of wengers biggest flaws when in charge. He had chances to bring in similar players in quality to the first 11 but chose not to

Hopefully arteta doesn't make the same mistakes. U see with pep he will replace or still sign someone even if they are class player and main starter.

Mahrez and Forden for example.
