Yeah, but you didn't lose a point. How do you have one less now than 14:45 on the 9th April?

Wow, that's impressive in a morbid kinda way

I’ve just gone back to look at the Palace equalizer, had Meslier stood up instead of diving head first he’d have probably saved it…confidence was shot after that game, both keeper and the rest.

There are many holes in our side

But there are many in most of the sides near the bottom

What matters is a spine and most relevantly a keeper and striker

Those are the two key positions that have cost us this season at massive moments. Keeping errors or the inability to score from our striker

That's why we are going down

Makes me wonder if we'd started Robles sooner, who looks steady. And, what ud we spent that 35m on someone whose actually a striker

Spot on Yorkie. The spine of a team is the most important element.

A solid goalie who commands the area and gives confidence to the defenders in front of him

A dominant CB who wins all his headers, marshals the rest of the defence and keeps the opponents CF quiet.

A solid central midfielder who senses danger and breaks up attacks protecting the back four and passing the ball to the wingers/creative midfielders further up the pitch

A proper CF who can hold the ball up, bring others into play, make life difficult for opposing CBs and score goals when opportunities arise.

Needless to say, we have had none of these this season apart possibly from Adams before he was injured. That in a nutshell is why we are where we are.

The turning point of that game was just before 1/2 time where a completely needless freekick was conceded on the edge of our box - by Roca I believe. Players were having a go, visibly from the East Stand, at each other as the whistle blew for the break, I still believe that continued.

We'd been under pressure and needed to get to 1/2 time, but let them in. That created the lift Palace needed ... the rest as they say is in the history books.

But that result and the 2nd half performance set us up for relegation.

Hear many blaming Meslier, who has made mistakes for sure. But that guy has been behind the most porous defence in living memory .... I'm not sure many keepers would have done much better. Maybe he didn't command his defenders - but then he was often the "kid" in amongst other more supposed experience. The managers, all of them until Sam, kept picking him first.

We're picking on the wrong reason we're going down, if as likely we do. Firmly in the attack for me. Too many games we simply didn't take guilt edge chances and got sucker punched by teams.

We, as a team, just kept inviting pressure. If/when we go down, it's because the team, in its entirety, haven't been good enough.

Agree with most comments on here.

The chances we have missed and a lack of a quality striker has hurt us badly. Unbelievable where we are. Sometimes still can’t believe it. That squad fully fit should be nowhere near the relegation zone. Shambles

Come on VOF

He’s not a young kid, he 23 and played over 100 games

Which actually is more than the 33 year old keeper whos come in to replace.

He’s cost us goal after goal, its not like his goal as been peppered.

23 and played the last 2 seasons in a team on the back foot ... you can't deny that. How often have we lamented that teams cut through us like butter, or we're chasing back because we've over committed going forwards? He's made mistakes - in his position always highlighted. But how many players have played dum passes, not found team mates when seemingly simple passes available. I believe it's a collective reason we're going down. Not all to be lumped on the keeper, that's all i'm sort of saying.

For me his confidence has dipped badly and Robles should have come in much, much sooner. But that's just my take. I blame the coaches for that.

I know emotions are up at the moment - i know mine are - but I just believe we're in this mess because of the team - they've all made howlers or not been clinical.

Above all - why in gods name sign a £35m forward and hardly play him. Either had our pants taken down as selling club knew he was bang average, or we've failed to use him properly. That's a club management error of epic proportions.

Hw has regressed. It can happen with young players. He's clearly a good keeper. Not sure he's all that with his feet. But there is a high ceiling that he can go on to be very good, especially with his experience by 23.

But he's got worse. May be one of those where a sale works for all parties. If he goes to a decent side as a number 2, they can use him sparingly and work on that ceiling. We get good money to invest elsewhere

Not comfortable with the over criticism heaped on Meslier.

He's regressed for sure but feel it's due to the slapstick comedy of the defence as whole rather than specifically just him. If the defence had done it's job he would have progressed accordingly - truly confidence sapping.

I'm just as concerned that the strike force has been as impotent as a corpse at critical times. Even in the Hammers game, some of the air shots and attempts verging on golf style shanks were unbelievable.

When we got relegated in 2004 I remember feeling upset to lose a big chunk of the first team side and young talent. We said good bye to the likes of Viduka, Smith, Mateo, Robinson, Harte, Lennon and Milner.

This time I am genuinely not the slightest bit upset or bothered if the majority if not all the first team regulars depart for pastures new. Maybe because I'm that much older, I don't know but a big part of me is looking forward to most of them all leaving Leeds.

Mecca, I get what you mean but a slightly different take...

I don't have the same fear I did compared to that time. We will lose some but I'd expect many of the current squad to remain which would do well in the Championship. May make it more achievable to come back up

Agree.

we've just not been good enough in any department and rightly deserve to go down. The league table doesn't lie.

Think there's been a series of carve ups from the management and the buck really has to stop with them. You can't be pointing fingers at any one player, or any one performance.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a management basher for the sake of it, and I do think Radz and co have been a little unlucky at times, where maybe they'd of got the rub of the green in previous seasons etc, whether its down to sheer incompetence or naivety it doesn't really matter at this stage...

They've managed to totally fluff our return to the premier league, its not like we've not spent any money, and I'm not saying the premier league is an easy ride either but who knows how much this relegation will set us back - it doesn't feel like we're any further forward then before Bielsa totally transformed our club.

prob over priced but I do think hes destined for good things at team that plays similar styles to Bielsa. sensational with his feet and lets face it, if you're a city keeper for example, all you'll be doing is passing it as a keeper

It would be nice next season to be like the Man City of the Championship and absolutely storm the league with a record amount of points and goals... but Leeds being Leeds you can't help feel the best we're going to be is the Spurs of the Championship and then it will be a Spurs without a Harry Kane talisman.

posted on 25/5/23

If we were just slightly less awful over the last 6 weeks, we’d be staying up. If we had held on to beat Leicester and scored that pen against Newcastle. They’ve shown absolutely no bottle at all, they didn’t even need to be good to stay up, just not absolute garbage.
