Moises Caicedo

This would be good news, cheaper and probably better than the other massively overpriced player we’ve been linked to, rice. He’d be a good addition
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He definitely won't be cheaper. He may well be a better fit though
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure how he and Casemiro work together, other than the games where we need to play deep, like City and Arsenal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Casemiro will miss a dozen games through suspension! But even if he doesn't, we need more depth in that position with Fred being likely to leave. If we are serious about competing then we can't afford such a stark disparity between the first 11 and those the second 11.

Caicedo is good enough in possession to influence games in a positive manner anyway. He's not as creative as Eriksen but won't be overrun in the same manner either against anybody who presses (which is most teams these days)

It’ll be interesting to see him out of Brighton, who seem to have been drilled in possession as good as any in rhe league.

I’ve a feeling, a bit like Southampton, some will leave and do well, others not so well.

So EtHs main target last summer was FdJ who’s good in possession and can move the ball forward but we ended up getting a DM, and now EtH wants Mount as an #8 but we are now going for Caicedo who is another DM and costs more?

I think this is us trying to scare Chelsea. There are so many areas we need to fix before getting another DM.

That is my main concern, obviously with Bissouma fresh in the memory. Caicedo is a much better footballer than Bissouma, whose main attributes were as a destroyer.

But yeah, they have a set system which brings the best out of their players

I doubt we’ll get Caicedo. Looks like he’s off to Chelsea.

Reckon it’s gonna be a shocking transfer window for us as we don’t really seem to have a plan.

My prediction - late in the window we’ll try again for FDJ and that will be another frustration

Against the possible competition, he’ll make us harder to beat with him and cas in mf, he’s got a better passing range than rice (who’d also protect the mf), but the point about an FDJ type is a good one, can’t help think that’s the sort of player we should be after, none of Mount, rice or Moses are that player.,but I’ve a feeling that Mount might have provided the best balance in what ETH wants. Rice is way too overpriced for his ability, Moses whilst cheaper is similar in what he offers,, Mount is more a bridge between between defense and attack than the other two at expense of defensive ability, but I’d decent in front pressing.

Glad we have pulled out of the Mount deal. That shows improvement on how we have been dealing with transfers in recent times.

Would be very stupid of Chelsea to turn down good money for Mount, whilst also inviting a CL team into the race for Caiceido, a player they seem to want.

Smart move by Utd either way

There aren’t too many in FDJs mould, I’d what imagine the issue is.

Not sure if it’s already been mentioned here but Chelsea needs funds before July 1 to help with FFP compliance. The international transfer window doesn’t open until July 1 so Bayern signing Mount (as reported by the Guardian) doesn’t help at all. Bit of a weird story for Chelsea to plant. I’m with Diafol. We’ll sign Mount within the week.

It's funny that we just so happen to now be after the player Chelsea will push for after they complete certain deals.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Mount still happens but if this is true and we have walked away and Caicedo is a genuine target then that's brilliant news because of his suitability to a pivot role and our need for more press-resistant players who can play on the half turn in deeper areas. Caicedo's sense of positioning, dynamism and physicality will help us massively as well.

I don't think he's the perfect partner for Casemiro, he's actually a good long term replacement for him but I think it's a pretty strong pairing until we can find a deep-lying playmaker who meets the standard we require.

It's again concerning though that we've gone from one player to another completely different in profile and position.

Whilst we might go on to bid for Caicedo, or sign Mount, I wouldn't be so quick to criticise the club based on newspaper rumours.

We will probably wait until Chelsea sign Caicedo and then go back and pay (more than) what they were asking for Mount. That'll learn 'em.

Romano not saying the deal is off, or more that we’ve not walked away and our offer is still on the table.

Understand Man United have not left the negotiations for Mason Mount — as £55m bid is still valid on the table. But not accepting Chelsea’s £65m counter offer. 🚨🔴 #MUFC

Door remains open but Man Utd will not wait forever, believing £55m is fair bid.

The issue for Chelsea is no other club wants Mount. Bayern MAY be interested but at half the price Utd are offering.

Will Chelsea want to keep an unhappy player who will leave for free next season? Answer is no.

Expect Chelsea to cave in soon and accept the Utd bid

posted on 25/6/23

No idea why we’re holding out

£55m is a ridiculously good deal, would of took 40m

Given United are happy to pay £55m, they’re playing this the right way, IMO.

Leave the offer there, start looking at other players, and let Chelsea either accept it before 30 June and get the transfer registered against their accounts for 2022/23, or forfeit that opportunity to address some of their FFP concerns and risk not being able to sell him at all this summer.

That said, I expect the FFP situation isn’t going to be quite as serious as it might have been, given that it looks like the Saudis will be handing over at least €55m in cash before 1 July.

Lack of reports re bids for the CF we desperately need is a bigger issue for me than if we get Mount for £55m or £60m.

Nominations are now open, gentlemen.

When Mount ends up somewhere else and has a stunning season, who do you think will be the first on this board to complain; “FFS. Why didn’t we just pay the £7m add-ons?
