Anyone that signs for us is under pressure to perform, look, why
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree. I just feel the expectation of this lad to take us up a level is huge, and the comparison with DDG, a club legend, inevitable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That's only because it won't be very hard.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This comment proves my point exactly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you factored in that you don't really understand football?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Iv not seen many people agree with your point yet.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And? If that was the litmus test you'd be completely fvcked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not the one throwing barbs about how little others understand football though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, your just deleting comments that show you up for not knowing very little about football

So who called onana the ultimate modern keeper?

"Not only that, but surely opposition managers will set up to press him hard."

They may do for a few weeks, until they realise he is essentially an extra outfield player when we're in possession.

Does this sound like a guy who is worried about pressure?

A lot of places reporting we're close to signing some Japanese keeper too, who I assume is backup allowing Heaton and Henderson to leave.

Heaton will stay I imagine.

Plus apparently Suzuki has only played a handful of senior games in Japan - I really doubt he's ready to be a number 2 in the Premier League just yet. Wonder if we'll put him in the u21s for a season.

Maybe he's a swift learner though and will be ready?

Being the GK there will always be one or two idiot fans that know sfa about football and blame them for every goal and pointlessly pine for players past.

I don't think Onana will be under anymore pressure than any other player coming to United, there's always big expectations. Judging by what I've seen of him so far, self confidence won't be an issue.

A couple of other points, this is the best time to come in for him as DDG has gone downhill over the last few seasons so Onana would need a very bad season to be seen as worse than the current DDG, even if he makes a mistake or 2.

You can add me to the list that thinks having a GK that is confident on the ball will improve the defenders (including Maguire). They won't have to be looking for that difficult pass to another defender or midfielder if they are comfortable passing it to the GK. We have seen many times where the defender panics as DDG is on the only pass on, even more panic when DDG has it at his feet. This certainly isn't the case with City or Liverpool (just so you don't jump on it, I'm not comparing Onana to Alison/Ederson)

The whole fckin point of having a keeper like that is that we WANT teams to press him, his ability to pass it through the press then gives you a numerical advantage further up field if he’s skipped 2 or 3 players out with a pass, or created an angle for Martinez to do it.

The champions league final proves there is nothing to worry about, go watch a video of his distribution in that game, it was absolutely outstanding.
He was threading balls between 2 city players at times like Pirlo.

You dont try that on the worlds biggest stage unless you're supremely confident

OP what is the average "no" comments is it before you start a new thread with a slightly different loaded question?

Ajax have just tweeted stating Edwin is in stable condition so hopefully he's past the really critical stage now.
