Yes, true.

How many month-old posts from the dippers’ board claiming that Jordan Henderson is still twice the player Caicedo will ever be are going to surface in the next week or so?

I’m looking forward to the quotes to resurface of Caciedo saying it’s his dream to play for Man United.

We did not sign Caicedo because we were put off by the complicated ownership of his rights I think.

Yeah, I think that’s what I read.

I thought it was Valencia who told the club to buy Caicedo, not scouts identifying him? Same with Haaland, he was suggested by Ole, not the scouts. I could be wrong.

Whether there were personal recommendations as well, I'm pretty sure the scouts will have looked closely at the player and rated him highly if it got to the point that we were going into the commercial details of the deal.

The long report on our recruitment operations in the Athletic ~late last year suggested that the long-term problem wasn't necessarily quality or breadth of scouting, but that we didn't have the organisational capabilities to convert that information into good decisions. I seem to remember key issues were lack of someone to narrow down data and options into more actionable information, and the fact that there were too many people with input and power of veto sitting around the table when discussing potential transfers, which led to indecisiveness. Hopefully some of that has been addressed with the rise of Arnold, the empowerment of Murtough, and appointments/restructuring in the data department.

Fair enough, wasn’t really sure how far we even got with Caicedo other than hearing the low fee and Valencia suggesting him.

The way the market is these days you’d think these big clubs would be looking outside the box a bit more rather than paying 9 figure sums on players who’ve had 1 good season in Europe.
