I saw clips of the final of the Arab Champions Cup from last night, and it was serious business.

The crowd was huge and fully invested, and the players were giving everything.

Ronaldo looked as happy to win last night as he did to win any of his titles in England or Spain.

Yeah now he’s won the titles in Europe and is 38 and in the twilight of his career.

Any serious footballer not motivated by money wouldn't go to the Saudi league because it will never have even an ounce of the prestige that the European club competitions and major leagues have and no amount of money will change this.

As for Neymar, hugely unlikeable but immensely talented footballer who didn't have a bad career by any means but I'm sure he regrets spending what should've been the best years of it at PSG.

Why have the best footballers headed to the EPL - for the 'prestige'?

Bollix £££££££££££

It’s a combo of both.

The authorities have lost all control of the financial side of football, despite their ridiculous supposedly FFF rules, which still allow clubs like Chelsea to circumnavigate them at will.

Football as we know it, is all but finished. Domestic leagues will all be wiped out before the end of the decade, to pander to the financially doped.

RIP football

Neymar had a great career despite what many think. By 23 he won it all at club level. Could he have done more? Yes, but hardly a wasted career.

Would never say never. In a 100 years time things could be very different.

Exactly.

EPL is the most watched football league in the world, by a mile. It has amazing players, traditional clubs with provenance, amazing stadia and amazing atmospheres and passion.

As its the most successful it is full of riches but players don't just go there for money in the same way players dont just go to the biggest clubs for money, its the pinnacle of the game they want at league or club level.

I struggle to see what the end game is for Saudi.

We can expect them to build their football base with stadia and clubs and fans, to build some status in the world game before trying to get a world cup, to put themselves on the map even more, but i thnk this goes beyond football.

I dont think they want to become a football superpower, but if they are a player then there will be growing acceptance of them on the world stage...a massive PR exercise.

People saying he's basically retiring at 31 but the reality is the Pro League is now pretty much a top 5 league.

It's certainly bigger than the Dutch and Portuguese leagues for example.

I'd say it's overtaken Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga as well at this point.

In a few years, it will just be the PL and Pro League as the dominant leagues in this sport.

No, just no.

The pro league is pretty much a top five league . ffs
