we were better to watch last year but ultimately poor, a few good signings in key areas could have improved us i i thought.
intead we:
downgraded Mooy
downgraded Starfelt
downgraded GG
downgraded Jota
our transfer strategy is to buy 2 million pound players, throw that schite at the wall and hope one sticks, it has lawwell written all over it.
on early showings, we've signed some amount of schite in this transfer window.
No easy cure though. The real issue Celtic and Rangers have is that bar Aberdeen (not this season) Hearts and Hibs (not this season) no one else gives them a decent game all season and CL sides are just too big a step up.
Europa League, Celtic and Rangers can compete because the step up is slight.
I don’t think you can blame quality of player, it is always going to be tough going from Dundee at home on a Saturday to Feyenoord away on the Wednesday.
I dont think Rangers are any different to what jfk posts.
Downgrade Aribo
Downgrade Kent
Downgrade Morelos
I understand kent was poor for a,while before he left and Morelos was totally uninterested and unfit but they both were a major reason in reaching the europa final and Morelos could score regular goals in the europa.
Lammers, dessers and sima are definitely so far downgrades.
What hype are you refering to Heed?
I struggle to remember any hype around us doing well in the Champions League. Rather there is an acceptance that if things go our way we may sneak a third place.
I'll also play devil's advocate here - what is success in Europe for us? What will that cost to achieve and what will that bring in , in terms of revenue/profit?
Whether we like it or not we spend enough to get into the CL by winning the league but we probably have a wage bill that outstrips our domestic earnings so rely on getting income from Europe.
I'd love us to say "fvck it lets go nuts" and have a spending extravaganza. let's say we spent £50M to really upgrade our team - we'd still win the league. Would that £50M get us into the next round of the CL or maybe the Quarter Finals? Maybe but not guaranteed. Does reaching they stages give a return on the £50M?
I don't want Lawell at our club as I think our strategy under him is exactly what JFK said - buy £2M players and hope, it was far better without him - but it still made no difference in the CL.
To be successful in the CL we need to go back to ugly football. Look at how we played under Strachan and Lennon, it wasn't pretty. Go back to MON times. It wasn't free flowing football but we had some wonderful players to do a moment of magic that we could afford at that point.

You may be right. I’ll accept what WGS did. The players MoN had would cost way in excess of £50m in today’s terms. I think the only way we can ‘compete’ and go further in Europe may be by playing a particular style, playing foreign players at their own game and getting lucky 🍀
you would need to be an imbecile to think that we were going to make a dent in the champs league this season.
absolute crackpots convincing themselves that rodgers would take us to the next level, ignoring how pathetic his last attempt was.
as call sign says, you need to be really well disciplined in europe and have a game plan. O'Neil & Strachan had one, even Lennon knew that set pieces were vital and aimed at Samaras.
too many gambles in that squad right now, reeks of PL .
Scottish football has certainly come back down to earth with a bump these last couple of weeks aye?

Prefer the bump from low expectations than the massive thud from football never coming home ever again TBF.
Don’t really understand why Celtic are poorer in Europe than Rangers given dominance in the league over recent years
MON spent on experienced players but he and the board left the ageing squad in a shocking mess.
And why is every team we come up against physically bigger and more skilled than us?

Better recruitment and coaching 👍

Japanese players are usually on the small side Silver and you have a few in the side.
Is it not that players from Italy, Spain and even the Netherlands etc usually are more skilful.
o'neil and lawwell left the club in a state for strachan to come in, truth is it was a miracle he won the league that first season.
we didn't look remotely like scoring the other night, was pathetic.
we didn't look remotely like scoring the other night, was pathetic.
neither did they until Hart flung one in, I'd say we looked more likely in the 1st half than they did
Scottish football will never compete in europe as the finances are not there.
The dutch get 180m a year from tv we get 35m and more people watch our league than them
i don't think there is much wrong with our japanese signings to be honest.
i'm seriously questioning whether we should continue with scouting the korean league though.
You correct jfk, wish rangers would look towards the Japanese Market and find gems like hatate and kyogo.
I was just referring to the physical side that Silver was referring to.
The People's Republic of Lawwell.
Big Peter is watching you from the Ministry of Truth.
Doesn't matter is we win fvck all, as long as we're rich.
neither did they until Hart flung one in, I'd say we looked more likely in the 1st half than they did

hart was poor and slow imo, but i think the wall should carry most of the blame.
allows itself to be bullied to the side by feyenord, then they decide to stick kyogo on the end the lefty will try and bend it round, just moronic.

Agreed 100%.
Kinda depressing, isn't it? Going to be a long old season ahead, based on these early indications. Next 'Tic manager/coach/player to say "we'll learn from it" should be taken out and shot. There's zero evidence we've learned from many Euro humblings in the recent past. Step one needs to be "learn not to shat your pants any time we play better teams" ... and that applies pretty much across the entire squad, bar CCV.

Folks may have noticed on here, but I've been banging on about our squad of munchkins for a LONG time now. Even our few taller front 6 players are powder puff, bar Oh. Most games we have 2 CBs, AJ now he's back, and that's about it in terms of physicality ... nowhere near enough.
