"Heavily backed in the transfer market..."!

That is only part of the problem. Doesn’t take into account we’ll have shifted good money to get likes of Butland in on a free transfer.

Larger problem is what we’ve spent it on. All our cash practically spent on three strikers. Cifuentes seemed a strange signing from the outset and has looked lost most of the time.

Add in the money spent last year Yilmaz, Davies and Matondo all been unconvincing. No doubt if Kent he’d still start and offer more than Matondo. Davies criticism been ott though and was brilliant last night.

Out of all the signings in the last 12 months, only players that have clearly improved us are Butland, Raskin and Cantwell. That’s poor.

Davies/Souttar you could add there but neither have convinced. Lawrence if he hadn’t constantly been injured too possibly, and still time for strikers to prove their worth but struggle to see them being better than Roofe.

It’s an angle that suits some so they use it. Big Ange in his two years made around 10 million profit. Others will swear blind he couldn’t fail “cos he spent fifty mullion”.

Player trading - balance sheet - is the true picture

To be fair it was Beale himself who helped fuel this particular fire by proclaiming how big his transfer kitty was before he started wasting it on all the dung he has brought in.

The plan to build the team around Dessers already looks daft as he clearly isnt fit to lace Roofes boots.

And Cifuentes certainly has never looked like the 'next level' player Beale claimed he was. Rabbit in the headlights for the most part.

A lot of the players brought in have an awful lot of improving to do to convince anyone they are Rangers players.

Thought Rangers were pretty good last night. Betis played some nice football but Rangers stuck to their plan and deserved the win.
Butland has been a very good acquisition.
That's the first decent result of the season. Suggests that Cantwell and Raskin haven't been the upgrades that some bears believe.

So it's not just the Scottish refs they have in their pockets pfff

This 100%. Only had it on in the background but what I saw was unimpressed with Betis.

Cantwell is a decent player despite the awful clobber, the renewed highlights (tone it down, dahling) and fashion accoutrements but sometimes teams suffer when they constantly try to route play through one individual unless it happens to be Messi.

As a complete tangent this popped up on my Google - seems Laudrup has branched into homewear?

Only saw the highlights from last night's game......it looked like Betis missed some chances and Rangers grew into the game and capitalized.

Surely too early to be writing off most of Rangers close season acquisitions. Admittedly I haven't seen enough to form my own opinions. Last night's result might be a springboard to kick on for the rest of the season. Time will tell

A debate about net spending? We’ve not had one of them for a while.

I did think that. Betis had a lot of the ball and tried to do wee quick passing triangles but they didn't go anywhere. Rangers remained fairly solid. I wasn't impressed by Cifuetntes and no Rangers player really stood out but that is what has seen them do well in the EL in the past - just being a unit. I don't think it is a suprise they were better without Cantwell. They try to go through him every time because he runs about a lot and looks for the quick return ball but the rest of the team don't play that way so when he can't get a quick return ball he throws himself down. Maybe Rangers are better just being an organised unit that counter attacks. Matondo isn't the best technically but by playing a counter attack then his pace can really be unleashed.

Don't want to react on the basis of one game but I hope he sees the need to be more solid in midfield.

Raskin has not turned up this season, very good player when he arrived but shouldn't be a guaranteed starter just now.

As was obvious when the window closed the biggest issues is lack of quality in wide attacking areas.

Away from the negs. We beat a expensively assembled Spanish side. One of their bigger clubs too and definitely better than that Feyenoord muck.

He was heavily backed.

Net spend is simply a balance of income v purchases on player trading. Also a sign of a manager and club running their finances effectively or not.

Rangers didn’t have to allow him to spend that. They could have used the money elsewhere. The fact is they allowed him to spend millions, regardless of how the money was accrued.

Simple stuff really
