I would have Gore above McT in the pecking order let alone Hannibal.

I thought he did well on Saturday.. Showed some skill and a desire to get on the ball... I also like the he has a bit of edge to him.

He seems to be growing in confidence. It can often take players a long time to be comfortable in their own skin but I think he is there now. The next aim for Hannibal I imagine will be to become comfortable in someone else's skin.

He is technically very good
91% pass completion on Saturday.

Still a little rough around the edges but has really good energy

Just to put my feelings for McT in perspective, I was never a great fan of Fletch. All be it for one and a half seasons he was pretty crap for the rest of it. Excuse the pun there.

McT is nowhere near the level Fletch was at when Fletch was poor.

Still no idea why we didn’t snap West Ham’s hand off for 30 million.

McTominay is done at this club, he knows we tried shifting him in the summer and his head has dropped. We should’ve just taken the £30m from West Ham and invested it, we may have got Amrabat in earlier.

posted on 25/9/23

I dont really see how McT gets a look in once Amrabat, Mainoo and Mount are fit.

We can agree on that.

More than happy to see him given more chances. He my be raw still but he needs minutes to iron out the creases. Offers a lot more than some of the other bit part players.

Didn't realise mct is 26, soon to be 27!
I thought he was around 22/23

Yeah he should be much better by now.

I can see why McTominay gets compared to Fletcher: both home-grown, Scottish midfielders not known for, shall we say, their technical flamboyance. But when he reached maturity as a player, Darren Fletcher was a very, very good defensive midfielder. Unfortunately, proportionately much more of his career ended up being the ups and downs of breaking into the team. We basically got to see an early career and about a season and a half of mid-career, and that was it. As VC says, McTominay just isn't at Fletcher's level.

Even if he doesn't make it long-term, he's at least the quality of player that emerges from the Chelsea youth team and gets sold for £40m and has a very respectable career as a key player for a mid-table club.

Got a feeling we may see a few of the big part players tomorrow night.

Garnacho for sure will start. Maybe Pellistri and Gore. I would think Amrabat will also start.

Garnacho, Pellistri and Martial up top with Amrabat, Hannibal and Eriksen in midfield?

In defence we may not have much choice other than to play those who are fit.

I am still struggling to see one part of his game he is actually good at.

For a big lad he is physically weak. He does not dominate in the air. He doesn’t track runners. His sprint speed is similar to Mata. He does not read the game or look up when he runs with the ball.

He quite literally makes my eyes bleed when watching him.

Seen these flashes soo many times from youngsters yet apart from Rashford not a single one broke their way into the first team in the last 8 or so years.

Wish him the best the same with a few others who have shown the same flashes but not holding my breath.

I liked what I saw on Saturday. Composed, comfortable on the ball but also willing to put a shift in and ‘get stuck in’. Think he could be a useful squad player this season and for me a better suited player for what EtH wants than McTominay who went missing for most of the game on Saturday.

It was great to get 3 points and a clean sheet but we do also need to factor in who the opponents were. Hopefully it can give us confidence to build on.

Gonna be interesting to see who we use in the League Cup with so many injuries. For me this tournament isn’t important at all this season and it would be stupid if we play any big players than don’t need to be played.

"partly because the salient gaps in our midfield are control and progression from deep, whereas Hannibal looks like a dynamic 8."
----------------------------------------------

I agree, but we'd signed Mount in order to switch to having two dynamic 8's ahead of a single sitting midfielder.

So if what ETH wanted to add another dynamic 8, you have to wonder if we'd have been better off giving Hannibal a season, saving the money spent on Mount and investing elsewhere in the squad.

It's notable that whenever ETH wants to change his midfield, he puts McTominay at #10 and drop Bruno into the double pivot (for his desire to get on the ball and orchestrate). If that's such an important role for an ETH team then again I have to question why we went in for Mount and then left Amrabat to the dying seconds of the window.

Could it be that he just puts Bruno back there when we're chasing a goal late on and he needs a 'hero ball' to make things happen? I suspect he's usually looking for more control from there.

I don't think so - he's done it from the start of games as well.

I think he has potential, i like his dynamism and directness, something we lack in the middle, but his temperament worries me.

He’s clearly extremely raw, gave the ball away in bad areas at times, wrong decision making, poor pass at a key moment in attack, but you can level that at even our best players.

You should keep this in drafts! It'll cover a lot of eventualities!

Player with bags of potential but also a nasty streak too, I don't mind the latter too much as long as he channels the aggression in the right way. Appears to have an all round game with an eye for goal.
