Fair play to Geordie Arabia

They seem to have achieved their success without cheating as well.

why? Not saying yourself but a lot of people had issues with chelsea and man citys success after years (atleast for city) in the duldrums and city were getting thousands at maine road and chelsea taking 15k fans away from home in div 2 during the 80s...

just curious why newcastle fans deserve success over any others...like lets say...port vale

Success is relative tbf. e.g. I'd argue Spurs fans have it harder than a proper community club like Port Vale. One fanbase have a strong sense of togetherness united behind an owner & team they care about (I've been told by a Charlton fan). The other are living in a constant state of ridicule & blue balls knowing they should be achieving a lot more than they are. Who's happier at the end of the day?

Newcastle fans were living in football desperation for a long time. No-one in entitled to happiness (fact I believe true in life & football) but people can be happy for them now.

Do agree with the sentiment behind the point about Chelsea & City fans though. Ironic that we get labelled gloryhunters by fans of clubs who know nothing but success when we're the ones who've seen the other side.

For once I agree with you but with a slightly different take - would I be happy as a Chelsea fan knowing we didn’t earn a single trophy and instead rather than building the club up to achieve success we just went and bought it. I know deep down I would never truly enjoy it, it’s like PSG it just all feels so artificial and unearned.

We’ve not won anything since 2008 but the Champions league final was the culmination of a young team that were mid table when Poch took over who built themselves up to challenging at the top table - we had gone the summer previous without spending any money. Watching these guys dispatching of Real Madrid was great fun. Even without the trophies, I would take it over just buying success, what’s the point of that, it’s like using cheat codes on computer games - sure you get trophies, but it’s all a little bit hollow.

As for the Geordies, they are doing it the right way currently, no extravagant spending, careful and considered squad building and trusting their manager. Their method could not possibly be anymore different to Chel ski’s if it bleeds buy it mentality - the fact you lot have spent £600bn over 2 summers to sit below Crystal Palace in the table is the funniest thing I’ve seen in years.

Without meaning to offend you that's ignorant thinking, that may well be how you'd react but until Spurs get put in this situation you can't truly know. Football fans create storylines & narratives unconsciously around their clubs all the time, and feel disconnected when that becomes harder to fabricate (I'm going through that now with our new ownership as I'm seeing needless revolution/breaks my personal narrative).

Prior to 2003 we were a club on the up that just couldn't break that next level occupied by Man United & Arsenal at the time, similar position I imagine Spurs fans have felt they've been in for over 10 years now, Abramovich's money & Mourinho was the catalyst which propelled us to our next natural step anyway, i.e. realistic PL challenger. It is an illusion but so is football as a whole. I do take your point, from the outside I feel like that about Man City because they jump a few more steps than we did at the start of their takeover, but comparatively they'd come up from a lower point in the prior years pretty quickly so they wouldn't see it that way.

You're also failing to factor in mini stories within the overarching one. Without Abramovich, our quest to win that first Champions League in 2012 wouldn't have happened which is the greatest footballing journey I've ever experienced as a fan. All those near misses - ghost goal, Terry slipping, referee screwyness, etc... and the absurd amount of luck the year we did win it creating a false sense of destiny. All that created something special (to me) that I promise you most certainly felt earnt!

You obviously imagine what it’s like for a Spurs fan and I imagine what it’s like for a Chelsea fan, maybe we’re both wrong, it’s just perspective

That's true. My prospective of what it must be like as a Spurs fan is very much framed from my position being a Chelsea fan. Lord knows the reverse strongly comes across when I hear Spurs fans talk about Chelsea

It might not be you I normally disagree with on this board - in fact other than Rusty I don’t seem to fall out with many on the Chelsea board, which I am quite surprised about
